UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I heard this today. Carson Beck, qb for Miami football, paid 4 million to play qb at Miami. The future of college athletics?
Yeah Miami football famously has never paid their players before NIL. I personally am disgusted and outraged by this. How dare they get a piece of the tens of millions of dollars they generate.

Mike, deep down in your heart, do you really give a flying fuck if Maine hockey players even know their ABC's?

I sure don't!

Well they are student athletes, isnt taking, learning the material enough to pass the classes like every other kid there part of that? I mean if the student part is eliminated then its not college sports anymore.
Yeah yeah I know the arguments to the contrary around how pay is making them professionals, they get tutoring and special class privileges etc etc.
The tie maintaining them as student athletics is getting thinner and strained and just might rupture soon. Probably not though because of the money involved.
Personally if the day of college student athletics dies, Ill just find something else to do. I dont enjoy professional athletics much -- well other than a few limited events.

As a disclaimer, Im assuming that, probably wrongly, was it beck?, by not going to class wasnt that he physically didnt attend class (I missed my share) but somehow he just didnt have to do any of the work to get through the enrolled classes.

I think he was doing online classes,. Its still BS as far as I'm concerned. Make them a minor league team if no academics is involved
