UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I’m not getting too excited yet, they looked great against a clearly inferior team.
Better than looking bad :) You play whoever is on the schedule. Maine played well both nights. I thought they should have been up by more after one period on Sunday. Tons of pucks sitting there that were missed, whiffed etc They kept battling though so good result in end. Poiriers size is the only thing that will keep him around another year.

Maine is #14 in the USCHO poll. The teams immediately above them: UCONN, BC, Northeastern. So the media still has us with the top tier of Hockey East.

UNH somehow isn't ranked.

Say what you want about Lindenwood, but Maine would have beaten most teams with how well they played this weekend.
Maine did look good but is it because Lindenwood wasn't that good? I agree Maine played complete games but when other teams have slowed Maine down, Maine fell apart. Lindenwood couldn't do that. Shit Vermont did it and they lost to Army this past weekend. Lot of season left, lets hope the team finally figured it out. Looks like we have a good goalie rotation now, thats a huge plus.

Maybe it's a hot take, but Drew seems very reasonable to me. He is pessimistic but generally provides his logic. I've never gotten the sense he was actively rooting against the team either, even if he doesn't expect to win.

News Flash: Beauty contests haven't meant Jack shit in forever. There is absolutely no reason to even publish them.
Settle down, Francis.

Polls simply provide a little bit of badly needed publicity for the great sport of college hockey. There's nothing wrong with a little bit of chin wagging between fans over the rankings.

A very interesting stat is that the top three players on the team in the +/- rating are freshman(Marques, Peterson, Langlois). Miguel Marques is leading the team with a +/- of 16. Maine has a net +23 in 5-on-5 play, and he has a +16. So when he is on the ice his line is clearly outplaying the opposition. I think he’s played himself into the top line RW spot. He really is making some fantastic passes using not just his hands but his vision to see something unfold and gets the puck there before it is obvious to everyone else. I think the more time he gets with Poirier and Lipinski the better because they haven’t played much together as a line. He’s such a tremendous playmaker.

Even if this season doesn’t bring Maine much success down the stretch, I’m thinking this is a great freshman class to rebuild the program around. If Maine can continue to stack classes with this kind of impact from freshman in couple seasons Maine will become a powerhouse. I think next years freshman class looks very good as well.

Also, has anyone heard if Langlois is recuperating well? I haven’t heard much. But usually locals at the game get info due to just chit chat at the rink when they see him in the stands watching with suit on.

I believe it was larry, or maybe manix or shields stated during the saturday pregame show he is practicing now.

Refresh my memory. Who are the major incoming freshman coming in next year?
