Vermont Catamounts Season Thread 2025-2026: Go Cats Go or No Cats No?

It seemed like Vermont came out hard first 15 minutes but then lost energy and Maine had them on their heels the rest of the game. Maybe buss legs got the best of them last night. UVM seemed to get slower to the puck battles as the game wore on.

Im not sure but overall it was competitive game most of the first. Then in the second Vermont started to make some mistakes and kept taking bad penalties. The worst one when they were on the powerplay in the offensive zone with the puck and a player cross checks someone right in the back in front of the ref. That pretty much ended it.
Soo, back to Mangbo. The one goalie of the the three that has a long record of being fine but not good. Wtf is this thinking. Unless someone tells me oster is hurt.

Mangbo is playing well tonight, had a couple great saves to keep Maine of the board.

Did not see that result coming after Friday night. Hard to know how to take it when they looked so bad in the last 2 games

Watched both games last weekend. Friday night it feels like Maine won ever single puck battle. I think they went with 8 D of Saturday night because the coaching staff went through the Friday game and sat everyone that was soft (they probably wanted to sit more but ran out of replacements). Have always been a big fan of Mangbo. In the post game interview with Wielder he said Mango has a groin injury and guted it out for most of the game on Saturday. I suspect that is why we have been seeing so much of Wright so far this year

I agree, I've always like Mangbo. He was solid last year as a freshman and started almost every game, didn't he? Despite my misgivings about the coach and team, I'm still a fan and always will be. Saturday was a gutsy win after getting clobbered on Friday. Thought I was gonna have a heart attack at the end though watching Wright. He was so shaky when he came in. Overall, I don't think the win will change anything and I continue to be baffled why this team has so much trouble scoring goals. I mean, we're pretty much at the bottom of the barrel in that department. Why?

Well that was pretty awful. And oddly, we now appear to have a fourth goalie on the roster, Cameron brown, listed as a grad student while his most recent team is listed as pingree prep, leaving unexplained where he has been playing for the last 4 years as far as I can tell. And after getting some playing time at Maine it looks like Sacco has disappeared again. Anyone have any info?

Only the #15 & #16 seeds made the final 4. Being a seed was bad luck this year.

How can a team like BU with 19 NHL draft picks be 8-8? The Cats seem to be much better on the road than at home.
The lower ranked team won every one of the quarterfinal matchups.

A lot of BU's players are young and it takes a while for them to adjust to the faster speed and required details. It sounded like Yegorov struggled this season (until this weekend).

Army tonight, Merrimack after Christmas, RPI after New Years. To put it briefly, all of these are at home and none of these teams are good.
Then we get two against Northeastern at home, who is good but also has been struggling a bit as of late.

If UVM goes 2-0-1 and then 1-1 against North Eastern maybe we can turn this season around before a good UCONN, a decent UMASS and a bad Stonehill series.

I don't know how you let Rob Dow walk. Give him the keys to the campus, whatever he wants. Someone needs to go ASAP, likely Schulman.

Does anyone know what is going on w/the goalies? I wasnt there but by the numbers Wright was bad tonight and has not been great overall. Yet we haven’t seen oster. And now we have Cameron brown on the Roster pulled up from what amounts to the club team. That was a miserable loss to a team that is 3-8 in Atlantic hockey. Wtf.

I don't know what's going on with this team man. We haven't seen Oster, who has had a long track record of success at a similar level. Guindon looks utterly invisible and lost out there, and also excelled at high levels. Power play and Penalty kill are among the worst in college hockey.

Against teams like BU/BC I get it, there is a major talent disparity. They are full of high draft picks and future NHL'ers.

Army doesn't have that. They don't have a single draft pick. I frankly would be shocked if they have anyone as naturally talented as Strand/Kessler were last year and Burroughs (who was in pro-hockey last year!) are.

Maybe its as simple as they have a coach who has a clue.

In good news I saw Felix Lacerte committed to UVM - another projected 4.5 star guy to go along with several other 3.5 star guys. One excuse that will not be available is that this team isn't recruiting well, and doesn't have the talent.

I'd love to bring my kids to see a game over Christmas break, but to spend money to actually watch this team as it loses 3-0 to one of the worst teams in the country increasingly has me asking ... why?

Army was clogging up the neutral zone and zone entries and UVM didn't adapt. I'm alos wondering why you would have a defensive pair with both D playing their off hand side.

Less important but also frustrating. What’s up with these “press conferences”? Why does nobody ask Wiedler stuff like “is oster hurt (and why haven’t we seen him)?” same re: Sacco for that long stretch when he was absent. “Why did you bring a 4th goalie onto the roster from the club team?” I get that these are kids and we don’t want to batter them like the my media batters the Yankees but come on.
