Vermont Catamounts Season Thread 2025-2026: Go Cats Go or No Cats No?

How do you not review that goal????? Looked offside live and looked offside on the replay. They still have ability to use replay right????

Looked close in-real time but on replay it wasn't even close, which did surprise me when I watched it back slowly. The pass had a ton of zip on it and was way in front of Resendes. The remarkable thing is that he was able to handle a pass that far out in front of him. You can bet that UVM coaching staff conferred with their replay guys before letting them drop the puck. Of course, they had already used their timeout which made it more of a gamble to go fishing for a call but it was a good goal either way.

It was a rare moment when BC showed the skill they have on the roster.

The way I look at it is this team scores a goal about once every 25 minutes of game time and there was only 1 1/2 minutes left. I prefer the odds of the goal coming back over us scoring, also even if the challenge fails you still have the 90 seconds left even if you go down a man you still got a chance.

Legitimate questions, would love to hear people's thoughts:
1. Why do we suck so bad?
2. What needs to happen to get this program heading in the right direction?

Two obvious ones: fire Wiedler and get a legitimate head coach. Look at what Barr's done at Maine. As I pointed out before, we had a chance to hire him but, for whatever reason, Schulman didn't even give him an interview. No, we had to hire the perv no one had heard of. The dude cavorting with young female students. Funny we never heard anything more about the lawsuit he and his attorney were so fired up about. Two, obviously, is a new arena, which will never happen.

What else?

Let’s start with the coaching. With the exception of Bradley we seem determined to recruit guys from Atlantic Hockey to coach in Hockey East

I have a screenshot of it somewhere, but I distinctly remember it being reported that the two finalists for UVMs head coach role were Ben Barr and Jerry Keefe (now at NU). And then you guys went with the creeper out of nowhere. It was bizarre then and is still bizarre now.

Brief side note, since my team wasnt playing last night I put on the BC-UVM game, and it looked like pretty strong attendance at the Gutt last night. Nice to see people coming out to watch the team even when they're struggling.

I don’t know, I remember Barr not getting an interview. Might do some research when I have some free time.

Regarding attendance, yeah Friday night was equally well attended. Just shows Burlington/Vermont is hungry for good hockey!

Recruiting is obviously a problem, can we get some goal scorers!!!

He was masquerading as a coach on his spare time. Ha

You get to see a lot of good hockey with UVM season tickets. Unfortunately it is typically from the visiting team. This past weekend vs BC I think BC is MUCH better with puck support away from the play and were much better at reading were the puck was going when UVM had it. Regarding scoring I feel like UVM struggles to make clean passes in the offensive zone. Need to throw the puck at the net more. Finally, the coaching staff needs to sit players you take dumb penalties.

Wow, completely dominated by a team that was as awful as we were 4 years ago. But then that team went and got themselves a great coach and now they’re one of the better teams in the country. But our scoring remained consistent last night, so there’s that. What a sh*> show! Fire Weidler right the f~#* now!

Maine alum and fan, parent of a Cat, really hate to see the Cats struggle. Hope the program gets righted at some point. Gutterson is such an iconic venue. It would be great if it could be revamped at some point to help attract talent, without losing its character.

I think they need a coaching change. Those kids looked destroyed after the loss. #17 on Vermont is a gamer.

Why is Weidler going straight from Wright to Mangbo? Is Oster hurt? Why have we not seen him in some capacity? Didnt see the game and acknowledge that SOG can be misleading but SOG in this case were startlingly close for a 7-0 win

Im not sure but overall it was competitive game most of the first. Then in the second Vermont started to make some mistakes and kept taking bad penalties. The worst one when they were on the powerplay in the offensive zone with the puck and a player cross checks someone right in the back in front of the ref. That pretty much ended it.
