US Foreign Policy 4.0: making the world safe to flee to if the MAGAts win here

This. In Europe it is always "American?"

Disgust mingling with the hope of having found a rube.

And worry I have a gun.

Ditto. Usually my answer was a sigh of regret confirming, which let them know I wasn’t a complete chud.

About 10% of the time I’d be asked if I was Canadian. Which I took as a compliment.

Which is funny because it’s absolutely untrue in my experience. It’s a bell curve like everything else in life. Plenty of times our table was the quiet one wondering when the Germans, Brits, or French would quiet the fuck down

We're talking about rep, not reality. Americans have the rep of being a cum dumpster of idiocy because of the 50% of Death Cult Chuds who sit at home drinking Bud Light and fingering their niece. Americans who travel to Europe, once you get beyond 20-somethings looking for orgies in Prague, are educated and cultured. Americans over 30 who travel probably vote D by 80 points.

Houston is fucking big
Oh baby come to Phoenix. From our house 1 hour in every direction... still Phoenix.

Beyond that, the asphalt belt of satellite cities: Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, Gilbert, Goodyear, and beautiful Buckeye.

A sprawl the geographical size of Indiana. Think of the final scene of Brazil.

I think Anchorage actually puts everyone else to shame in the footprint competition.

Jax. Back in the 70s they incorporated in a shit ton of marshland for federal dollars. IIRC it is not even close. The whole city runs on wetlands conservation fraud.

Schoolhouse Rock missed a couple topics.

Geezus these are Trump-level facts, Kep. Houston > Phoenix in both land area and population, not to mention Indiana is 50x larger in square mileage than the Phoenix MSA.

weird, after living in europe for years I have never had this thought
From what I hear, Dallas is hell. Houston is just another big city inside god's armpit.

Asphalt acreage is way beyond Phoenix itself. The Phoenix SMSA goes all the way north through Prescott and all the way south through Tucson. Bortle 6 or worse every square inch. That was the point of the post. Just like you don't leave "New York City" from Boston to DC. It's all the same monotony of soul-sucking megalopolis.

1700 sq. mi. for Anchorage to Jacksonville's 747.

Rookie fucking numbers.

LOL. OK, so how did they do that, and why? Were they reserving land against an AFB or something? That seems like more than just avoiding taxes.

I found a fun one: La Tuque, Quebec. 11,000 square miles -- 6x Anchorage. It includes an entire hydroelectric dam and its reservoir.

This is like those comparisons of stars where each is 10x the size of the former and it goes on for like 12 jumps.

Maybe the best of all: the municipality of East Pilbara, Australia. It is larger in area than Japan. 143,850 sq mi.
