UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Are we more embarrassed than Lowell who lost by 6 also but at least score a goal? Can we safely say after 11 games plus an exhibition that the CHL guys are not the answer?

Even if Lavins is back this week, I don't see it getting better.

Actually, as I've said on here before, when you've raised the issue (not me) I'm doing pretty OK, thank you. I'm 99% certain I could buy and sell you, for example. Not that it matters, mind you, but you seem to jump to this bait every time I point out the simple fact that Coach Souza is unlikely to match his income level of the last decade (give or take) with his next job. Lord knows the line to give him another D-1 head coaching job is exceedingly short, if any such line even were to exist?

So out of curiosity - since you brought it up, not me, and certainly not Coach Souza - it turns out that cursory research shows Coach Souza and myself have residences that are almost identical in both square footage and annual property tax obligations (which as our NH residents know is a pretty significant figure compared to neighboring states) although his place is in a far more urban setting, whilst the WIS Estate in "Effingwoods" is rural, with literally 15 times more acreage, and infinitely more privacy. "Effingwoods" appears at or near the top of NH towns with the annual highest household income (I see we earn slightly above the average of that figure), whilst Coach lives in a community that barely cracks the top 50. Ironically, a large graveyard is the most notable trait in his close-by neighborhood.

We all get to make these choices, I'm happy with ours, and hopefully Mike is happy with his (he should be - it's nice). So there is no jealousy here whatsoever. In fact, with our privacy, and relative proximity to Titletown, throwing in a clear title with no mortgage ... Coach might be jealous of our financial situation even??

Open question for you ... how much do you figure a guy with no history of working in the private sector (coming up on 50 years of age, with no real history of success in his current position) would be able to demand if he were to, for example, resign as Scott and others have suggested he do? Before being tapped on the shoulder by "Uncle Dick" (again, not me - that's Luce's description of his former lead assistant - nice guy, eh?) for his current position, Coach Souza was probably making high five figure salaries. He's probably carrying a big mortgage on his current place, with 20-25 years left to go. How do you step away from that job voluntarily, under those circumstances, potty?? I have much empathy for his financial situation, it will be tough to square things, without one further significant extension. All the while, the UNH Hockey program stagnates.

So ... are we here to run a successful hockey program, or subsidize a mediocre coach? Over to you, genius ...

Sorry to hear Scott. I see things a bit differently. I would like to see a little more in game adjustments for sure, however we have not had the easiest schedule and we were without, arguably, our 2 best players this weekend. FWIW this is a very young team, particularly on defense. Our offensive players are spending a great deal of time in the defensive zone making it that much harder to score. We have wins over #1, #10 (and one could argue #8 Maine- exhibition). Next weekend will be the true test, as I believe UConn is the best team in Hockey East this year. Maybe a big if, but if this group of players stay together for the long haul, I see a lot of wins on the horizon. This may be the best time in 10 years to get on board!! (Forever Optimistic!).

Nothing says more about Buford's psychiatric problems than this. Pretty sick stuff. By December, Buford will tell us where Souza's children go to school and the names of their teachers. Meathead and Elwood will continue to encourage him.

When you spend an entire period in the box that sure doesn't help!! I think Union was a pretty good 'test' but I agree missing 2 top forwards matter.

Again...the long haul. What does that mean? 2 years? Agree its a new team...here's hoping ? How much longer do UNH fans have to wait? What's your view of time?

First it was the rink size. Check. Now its the locker rooms etc. Check. So thats next year. Always something!! 10 years into this...not one trip to the Garden. Barely a sniff.

Also looking at how returning players are doing ...nothing personal and its rare I call out a particular player but where is Cy LeClercs game? Again..maybe just a getting used to new players around but Im expecting more from him.

As for UCONN..if we get a split I'll consider it huge but ya gotta score goals and stay out of the blasted box for an entire period to do it..

Speaking of Hellsten, he’s the starting goaltender for Leksands IF, a club in central Sweden that plays in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), the country’s top pro tier. Leksands is currently in last place in the 14-team league, but a quick look at SHL goaltending numbers suggests he’s the least of their concerns; he’s also tied for second in the league with two shutouts.

After going six games without a point, Ryan Conmy put up four points (2G, 2A) in Boston College’s weekend sweep of UMass. He now ranks seventh on BC in scoring.

Keep in mind the hole Dartmouth dug for Cashman was a deep one, basically nuking their program for an extra season as was de rigueur in the Ivy League after the much-ballyhooed and overblown pandemic. He had to start that far behind the 8-ball in 2021/2022, but two seasons later, he'd pulled even with his cross-state rivals with their first winning seasons as a D-1 Head Coach, actually bettered that last season, and is on his way to better that yet again this season.

All while playing in a facility almost twice as old as The Whitt (50 yrs. v. 30 years), no "Shrink-the-Rink" foolishness, and a program that has literally won nothing, ever, other than a runner-up finish in the 1979 ECAC tourney in Boston MA. Answers on a postcard to WIS Effingwoods on who provided the 1979 opposition ...

Souza is a symptom of a much larger problem, which is UNHs lack of commitment to excellence academically and athletically. People like you don’t understand that. The program will not improve unless UNH makes it a priority. Not going to happen because that costs money, which hillbillies like you can’t afford. Scott and Meathead are just like you.

Firing Souza is tantamount to putting new wheels on a car with no engine.
