RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

Trick is get a B lot pass. Other wise you need a private Sherpa to get up and down the street
C'mon, it's not that bad. If someone has legitimate mobility issues then the hills in front or back are obviously off limits. But I've parked on Peoples in front of Samaritan or the park probably 100s of times since I graduated and I still don't have a problem with it despite weighing significantly more than I did in my youth. I see many fellow seniors (it seems odd to say but I'll be Medicare eligible in a year) who manage it without problem.

It’s a joke.

It’s a joke.
I know the sherpa part was a joke, but it added to a stream of complaints about parking, drinking, etc. I know the modern fan expects more in the way of convenience than was the norm, especially with the games now on TV, but our primary problem is winning games. We're 1-6 at home, but coming off our best game of the season. This is a big weekend for potentially turning around the negative perception that's hung over this program. I'm sure Coach Lang has been working the boys hard. Let's focus on the games and less on things that no one cared about when we were winning.

I was not aware you were the fun police on this forum. You’re right we are 1-6 at home it’s also a rebuild year/years. Lang is the man I’m not worried about lang. The guys legit. Should be an exciting weekend. Last time we were winning Moses wore short pants

We always park at the alumni house. They have shuttle buses from there to the field house. Sometimes we take the bus, sometimes we walk. Parking is free, shuttle is free.
Walking that far or standing in the cold waiting for the bus to make the loop from the previous Fieldhouse trip is OK for the more invested fan. Did it myself a number of times until repurchasing a parking pass this year.

However, the subject matter was about the CASUAL FAN and they would have absolutely no interest in either of the above options. Come to think of it, how the hell would the sporadically attending CASUAL FAN know that either the Alumni House and/or bus option even existed???

P.S. It is now obvious there is a parking management (not a box office) problem at the Fieldhouse as it relates to prepaid ($80) annual parking passes. In my case, eight home games of which I attended all but parking spots were only available for six of them and I am not the only one who has gotten caught up in this. There have been multiple fan conversations on this subject matter and people are not happy. Most were outright madder than I have ever got over this. I have been around long enough to know that's RPI and that's the way it goes there.

Perhaps not the most exciting game, but it provided a fine win last night before another friends and family crowd at the field house. As I said in the game thread just before the third period, that’s exactly the sort of game we need to play in order to have a chance of success with this roster and the team needs to learn how to close out such games down the stretch. Congrats to Krawchuk on his first collegiate shutout. I think he’s clearly our #1 goaltender.

Correct- not the most exciting game but personally I would love it if we held the scores down and were playing these 1 or 2 goal games this year. There is a lot of offense skating around the ECAC and if most of our games in the league are like what we saw last night, we will surprise most of those pundits who had us as 11th in the pre season polls.

Combined attendance for the entire weekend against two name opponents who have at least some box office value was 3,005. Ouch!!! At this pace, freighting to think what the combined total will be for the Yale- Brown weekend who added together have about as much drawing power appeal as a used radio tube.

I didn't see the Saturday game, as someone decided to move all of the fall semester Sat. games to 4PM...after how many decades of 7PM puck drops? 4PM isn't an option for me.... Had I known this, I probably would've given up my season tickets. Another insult thrown on the ever-expanding pile.

I did see the Friday game, as painful as that was. I saw an RPI team that was completely disinterested in anything resembling physical play. I can only assume this is a coaching directive...but it'll get ugly when we play teams like Cornell who are more than happy to throw the body.

I forgot to mention this on Saturday’s broadcast, but everyone’s favorite college president Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, PhD, will be inducted into the NJ Hall of Fame on November 2-, at a ceremony hosted by Danny DeVito. No word yet on if her bodyguards will step on him.

From what I have seen this team can be physical but as you mention it seems to turn on and off. the girls on the other hand, have been very physical with Kendall Davidson and Kylie Toye leading in smack downs (and collecting a few major penalties). next weekend in central NY has the potential for some really chippy ugly hockey.

I hate to say it, but is it that surprising that attendance is bad right now?
There are 4 types of fans at the field house.
- RPI superfans: Most people in this forum would fall here. If given the opportunity, they go to the field house no matter what.
- General fans who are in the area and just want to see a game: RPI has had a terrible record at home for now 2 and 1/2 years. Likewise, Union has a brand new rink, and has been competitive at home for the past 2 and 1/2 years+. Unless there is a special event going on, there is not really a logical reason to choose going to a game at RPI over a game at Union unless they have an attachment to RPI.
- Students and Student families: Only current Grad Students have seen RPI in a winning season. Likewise, the only undergrad class that has seen a winning season at Home is current Seniors. In addition, they have limited time due to school work and other commitments with multiple factors aiming to get their time. On top of that, the official student section; The Red Zone (Formerly The Red Army) disbanded post the 2022-23 playoff loss to Yale, leading to much of the atmosphere being lost. Limited time, unlikely to win, no atmosphere. Why would they go to a game?
- Away fans: Go because of the opponent. Usually large turnout for Clarkson, Cornell, and Union. They go because of the opponent, so the product RPI is putting on the ice does not matter to them.
The truth is, right now we have a reputation of a losing hockey program due to (including this current season) being 11-32 at home in the past 2 and a half seasons. In addition, RPI hasn't been anywhere near a championship for 20+ years. It's ugly right now, but the faster Lang can get this team winning, the faster RPI can start to rebuild it's reputation as a winning program at home. Then attendance should start to rise. The past two weekends we have gone 1-1 at home. If we can keep up winning at least 1 at home every home weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if attendance is much better towards the end of the season then the beginning.

I hear that DrD refused the same honor.

Fitting... the way she Tony Soprano'd our hockey program.

Rumor has it Dr. Jackson refused the honor unless the host was at least the same height or shorter than her.

They're welcome to her. (Apologies Doc....you're guilty by association). LOL
