John U Bacon has a new book out on the tragedy "- haven't read it, but apparently he talked to a lot of the families.

I know there isn't any new info about the crash- as there just isn't anything new. And, quite frankly, it's been 50 year- it doesn't matter anymore- it's still a tragedy no matter what. And it will haunt mariners of the Great Lakes for a long time- since this ship was really modern at the time.

I’m very excited to read it. He is such a wonderful author.

I don't think so. I don't recall seeing one back when I first started here in like 2003 or 2004 but I could be wrong. I remember starting this one specifically because it was the 35th anniversary.

Pretty sure the upgrade from vBulletin 3.x to vBulletin 4 farked up the early history back in the day regardless, just like the move from 4.x to 5 farked it up in 2020.

Yes. While I am unsure of the versions, it's as described by F2B&G. (Gawddammit, am I really that old that I feel like am elder handing down generational information?)

The biggest wipe from that upgrade and data loss was the 9/11 thread. I was able to save most of it thanks to Google's cashe version at the time, and hosted it on my own website for a while.

That too had a Library of Alexandria moment in 2019(?) when I forgot to update my credit card information with GoDaddy hosting (but the domain name renewed a-okay?). I do have the 9/11 thread backed up on a hard drive somewhere in my dead PC parts collection. I really should find out what I'm still auto-paying GoDaddy for...
