BOSTON COLLEGE 2025 - 2026

The negativity is kinda over the top. This team will be a success if they make the tournament. Get used to it for this year. This is a rebuild year. Yes, goal tending is an issue, but courtier is the guy for better or worse. And they haven’t put away good scoring opportunities. They’ll get there. Moore played well tonight. Resendes is better that I expected. What they need more of is Berard type players. Physical guys who can mix it up. Mike hardman was that guy when newhook and boldly were there. That’s the piece bc needs. Nu has it is hycrizcoviovian or how ever the fuck you spell his name.

Is it goal tending or the effects of NIL and the portal that's the point of your current frustrations? Every blue chip program seems mediocre out of the gate and a month in I see nobody playing March level hockey. I look at Northeastern with 13 new kids all of whom are now playing and realize that making a team today is like making soup with a few ingredients already in the cupboard and a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get. You guys will work out the kinks but the days of guaranteed fast starts are less likely on recent NCAA ice sheets than they were just a few years ago.

Agree on the soup simile, but I don't like what is cooking, either for BC this year or for college hockey in general. Still a lot of hockey to play, the season is only a month old. This was a lost week end for BC but give NU credit they were the better team and the goal tending speaks for itself.

The move opting in to the new NIL 26 player limit from the old 18 scholarship system is a factor for BCs program this year. There are three players that BC might have brought in this year that were not due to the new limit. BC has three players on the roster that rarely suit up. With the new limit, misses in recruiting may hurt worse than in the past.

Rossi—I mostly agree with your points on this new regime of mix and match, see what you have, and it will settle down as new players get to know each other. That does seem to be the new norm. Especially if programs bring players in mid season as bu did last year and I’ve heard bc may do this year as well.

Only thing I’d add is that the slow start matters. Loosing out of conference games early hurts in the computer rankings which is all that matters. Bc is going to be behind the eight ball all season.

I guess it makes college hockey more exciting. But teams do need a fast start. Nu will reap dividends from their start all season long and credit to them for that.

Thought last year was the rebuilding year 🤔

Divver reporting that Gasseau had surgery on his wrist and is due back in January.

I think the merrymen need to put down the copium. Minnesota still has two wins (NPI 52). RPI is 1-7 (NPI 56). BC is sitting at 48, Gasseau is out long-term, Jellvik who knows, and the month of November has 2 games vs Maine at home and 2 vs UMass. Maybe they steal something there but those are two physical teams that are going to pound BC physically and I think we can all agree this team is soft as bruinsfan11 alluded to above. Two on the road at Vermont (3-3-0) to start November next weekend and I don't even know if I can call those winnable games even with an NPI of 44... and one Black Friday game at home against Notre Dame (NPI 41).

It's probably going to be a long winter and beyond.

Sweeping UVM is not exactly something to get too worked up about so just some quick thoughts.

-Jellvik has come in for the front end of the past two series only to sit the next game. BC hockey blogger says recurring injury. Weird because he has looked great in both games he played.
-Conmy got hurt and did come back possibly for a single shift after and then seemingly didn't return (as best as I could tell, the announcers seemed confused and struggled with who was who). He got flipped azz over teakettle and landed extremely awkwardly behind the net. Could have been neck or shoulder as he almost landed headfirst I think. With Gasseau out until January according to Mark Divver with surgery on his hand or wrist and Jellvik in a weird in/out sequence here, BC is seriously banged up at forward.
- The D seems healthy and had a nice, structured weekend and Cloutier was solid, giving up only a late PPG (foolish penalty!!) on Friday night.
- Gotta love Nolan Joyce netting his first career goal. Super happy for this guy, he's criminally underrated.
- Hagens was moved to left wing this weekend and Friday was meh until he zipped that gamewinning assist to Resendes but tonight he was terrific and all over the place and really dictated the offense when he was on the ice with the puck on his stick.
- BC has been searching for some of these solid secondary guys for a good while to complement the superstars. Now Gauthier (leading the NHL in goals), Smith, Perreault, Leonard are gone but the secondary guys seem to be here in Resendes, Sondreal, Cornforth and a seemingly healthy Will Vote. Hopefully those are four year guys that BC can build around. Plus Berard having a good physical presence and a good shot on the fourth line.
- Letourneau is still coming into his own but he clearly is stronger and more comfortable and is showing more confidence with the puck on his stick. Needs more time to develop and still a project for the Bruins.
- Even with shuffling of centers (including Gasseau injury), faceoffs are still bad (38% tonight and I believe about 50% last night).

UMass up next weekend, I expect them to drop the hammer on BC. For now, they are back to .500 and have some confidence to work with.

Sweeping Vermont and getting back to .500 is a step in the right direction. But just like last year when they piled up the quality nonconference wins early and almost had a one seed in the tournament locked up by the break, they've buried themselves this year. They have company this year with BU, UConn, and others. Northeastern excepted, this has been an awful start for Hockey East as a whole. There are now several highly ranked teams from last year (and the beginning of this year) that are almost to the point already of needing to win the Hockey East tournament to make the NCAAs. And only one of them can win it.

Good summary Carmen, There were stretches where BC was be bopping and scatting all over the ice and Vermont was just watching them. It was Vermont so it is important to keep things in perspective but they were good last night. Clouthier made the saves he had to and it he looks like the number one guy. The injury situation is concerning and they have a huge stretch of games coming up where they need all hands on deck. Gustafson had a read good week end as did Minneitian. Didn't hear Moore's name call very much, we need more from him. We will know the potential of this team by the end of the month but this was a good sign that things are coming together.

While taking care of business against uvm (or mc) isn’t something to get excited about, it’s better than the alternative 👍🏾

The BC hockey blogger let it slip on his podcast that it was a groin thing for Jellvik. I like Resendes, and think that he could be mire than a secondary guy by the time he is a junior.

I think Resendes and Sondreal both have high upside. Sondreal was a top-10 USHL scorer.

Navigating these next few weeks and dealing with the injuries will be difficult. It's still doable mainly because the D should be the strength of the team and they are healthy. As noted, it was only UVM but the D didn't seem to have the yips that they often get and played a fairly composed game as a unit. More of this.

Anyone hear anything about Conmy? He has not been great 5x5 but his off-wing shot paid off some on the early season PPs, which has since started to slow down.
