Minnesota State 2025-26 Season: Get To Know 'Em

They got the sweep, but tonight was rough. Tracy was probably the difference. I thought RPI controlled the play most of the game.

I figured that you would be more likely to read a reply here than in the RPI thread or certainly in the game thread. I personally think that as often happens after a dominating win, MSU didn't come out at the intensity level of the first game, and it took a while to realize that RPI would not roll over and play dead. It took them a while for MSU to get into the game, but they did. I agree that Tracy was the difference. I also feel that Krawchuk, RPI's goalie on Friday, will eventually win the starting job.

From my point of view, the game shows improvement over the first two weeks, and the 19 new players are starting to know each other and the returnees. We still have little offense, and the penalty kill needs improvement.

Still trying to get to know this team and all the new guys. By this time last year, we knew the line we could count on, we knew our top pair on D, had a pretty good handle on what the power play would look like, etc. I'm not sure we've resolved much on a lot of those things. We knew Luigi would get ice time, and he's been good so far. You can see moments with guys like Zetterberg, LeMyre, and Lurie, but no one has shown any consistency, especially at 5 on 5. There's another gear for this team. I just hope we find it this week.

Mavs playing the Swiss world juniors team at home on December 16th. Denmark vs Canada a week later.

Are the Mavs playing them or is it just a showcase with the three junior teams playing each other in prep for the World Juniors? The same thing is happening in Bemidji with Czechia, Latvia and Slovakia, but BSU isn't playing any of them. Duluth and Mankato are also hosting three teams each.

Mavs are actually playing them. One post said they were the only collegiate team participating, but didn't say why. Looks like Switzerland and Denmark are splitting games between Kato and Rochester.

It took them quite a while to get going tonight, but by the 3rd they were pretty well in control. Nice win in the Tommies' shiny new building.

I was wrong in an earlier post when I said I didn't know what kind of team we're going to be. We're going to be Alex Tracy's team. Nice win!

Well...that was one of the more frustrating weekends of hockey I can remember watching in a long while. Really struggling to do the simple things correctly right now.

I come in peace.

I thought BG played a very undisciplined series. Way too many stupid penalties, some by guys who should know better (Emerson for one). We struggled at times getting through the neutral zone which limited our o-zone time and our opportunities. Our goaltending early on in Friday's game was atrocious. Our power play was slightly better than non-existent.

However...

Steinman matched Tracey save-for-save. Morneau showed a snipers touch on his first goal. Aside from the gifts Moore gave, the Mavs struggled to score at even strength. Grade A chances were roughly equal. Shots taken and SOGs were roughly equal. Defensively, both teams were pretty equal. Aside from the fast start on Friday, neither team led by more than one goal.

BG, who played 7 freshmen each game, went into Mankato and hockey'd the #16 ranked Mavs even up for 6 full periods and 2 OTs. I thought Strand said it best in his Saturday post game presser, one team is thrilled with a 3-3 point split, one team is, well, sad/mad/concerned/worried/frustrated/pick your word.

Regardless, it was a good series and everyone got their money's worth.
