Maine moves up 1 spot to #6 in the USCHO poll. You've got to figure they didn't get the box score from the scrimmage.

After they have had years to sweep up greasy chicken nuggets, French fries, tons of paper products, and styrofoam containers and gallons of soda, I’m guessing beer won’t be a big deal.I wonder how much the cleaning crew at Alfond is going to like beer in the stands?

Out of curiosity, do you know why Maine doesn’t offer a jersey with Kariya with #9 on it like they do for Montgomery, Pellerin, Snow, etc… ?
I know it is a strange question, but he is considered the best college hockey player of all time.
I would buy one. I bet like 100 people would easily.

Yes
Langlois is coming off surgery last year so it seems he may be red shirting. He was evidently in a red jersey in practice.
Sully has also been injured. One of the practices he was in street clothes.
They are very tight lipped about injuries due to hippa.
Josh looked better according to people watching practice. He also was strong during the exhibition with UNH but didn’t make the score sheet. He and Poirier had some nifty plays. Poirier played more physical than you would have expected for a little fella.
Komarov seems to not do that much. He was 6-8 on faceoffs against UNH. That is better than his rate last year. The entire Fowler/Komarov/Russell line didn’t appear to generate too much.

I'm pretty sure he has to give consent. Maybe he hasn't been asked or said no but has he ever come back since going to the NHL? I dont think he has. He is a pretty private guy so maybe he just doesnt want to come back

I watched one practice.
Bennet was on tne ice, didnt seem to do much though other than collect pucks.
Josh looked about the same to me, but its not a good representative sample.
Komarov looked pretty good in practice, great hustle had the puck alot and scored a few times in drills
Barr chewed out Russell big time early in practice.
All I got.

Not coming back shouldn’t be a reason why they don’t offer his Jersey. And I can’t imagine he doesn’t give them permission. It essentially raises money for the athletic department. The ones that gave him and his two brothers and one sister free tuition. But then put out a Steve Kariya jersey. I’d buy one of those too. Kariya is a huge name for Maine.
Also, on the subject of not coming back. Was sad to see Bishop not come back for his appointment to Maine hall of fame. Not sure if anyone knows why.
Regarding Kariya, he has been pretty public on the record about his disdain for hockey since his retirement, stemming from his issues with concussions. He says he dosen't even remember the legendary goal he scored in the 2003 Finals against the Devils. So maybe that has something to do with it? Though maybe that's less about hockey and more about the NHL as an institution? In any event, it is strange that no Kariya #9 sweaters are available for sale; I noticed it last year when I was there and found it odd.

I believe he came back in 2001 for his jersey retirement ceremony, and then 25th anniversary of '93 back in 2018. Maybe 2023 as well, but am not sure on that.

He came back for his jersey retirement at Maine. He also came back for the HOF banquet for the 93 team in 2017. Got a picture with him and he was kind enough to sign a few cards for me

He also attended Teamu Salanne NHL hall of fame ceremony. So he hasn’t been completely isolated. But he definitely just likes surfing and keeping to himself and away from hockey. Steve is an NHL scout, I believe. Not sure what Marty is doing. Was hoping they would all multiply and we could have a steady stream of Kariya.

Pretty sure I saw he was also at Ducks training camp this offseason as well. He's always been reclusive but nice to see him take part in some of these events in recent years.
