UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

So it's game day for UNH [scrimmage]. I see UNH didn't get one vote in the preseason poll so let's hope they prove everyone wrong. I have no idea what to expect this year with so many new players. Maine should have a very solid team this year and it comes back to the coach. Have a great day all.

Don’t believe there is a broadcast. Per UNH Instagram, Wildcats lead 1-0 (on a Sam Oliver goal) and have out shot Maine 13-4 thru one period of play…

Trying to piece it together by peeking at the scoreboard on IG reels - it looks like UNH may have won on a Nick Ring penalty shot with 52 seconds remaining in OT??

UNH appears to have finished with a 38-15 SOG advantage.

Edit - it was a shootout win according to the ME thread. Not sure why the scoreboard said 51.8 if so, but I trust their recap over my sleuthing skills. Either way, not a bad start. Will be interested in any further insight regarding lines and newcomers from those in attendance…

For some reason they ran a 2:00 clock after the OT, not sure that's normal before a shootout, but they started the shootout with the clock running and some in-arena music playing.

Meanwhile, Tyler Muszelik (who?) is keeping Yukon in their game against the Tigers in Colorado Springs. Why cannot we get big-time goalies like ‘dat?

Oh …….. wait ……

Also, why cannot we play some away games farther west than New York or New Jersey?

Oh …… wait …….

Watching..looks like CC is going to hang on for the W. Speaking of goalies...did Kyle Chauvette play the entire game tonight v Maine? Caught the last few mins driving home tonight...the Maine announcers said 'looks like he's the guy' for UNH....
...is Da Whale battling for top spot? Im so damn out of the loop..hockey has been the last thing on my mind. Hope all are well let's gooooo 'Cats!

I was there. The new players on the roster seemed to mesh quickly. Oliver looks very good. Has a good shot. The new defensemen look solid. Appears as if Chauvette is the clear cut number 1. He made some nice saves. Thought he could have made a better play on the second Maine goal. Conmy on the top line would make a huge difference but that’s water under the bridge.

Yes, Chauvette played in the whole game. Left with 5 minutes left so dont know if he was in for the shootout. UHN looked pretty decent , chin up Chuckie

Thanks for the review of the game BLBob! Yeah that was a nice snipe from Oliver. Guess Conmy has a spot on BC's top line and if I'm not mistaken he scored last night in their game. Water under the bridge sigh...Wayyyyy to early to make any real heads or tails about this team, but, seems like these new guys are going to make a nice addition. Gotta learn the roster! Listening last night I was like 'who is that'...lol. GoalieWatch will be interesting but the announcers seemed to like Chauvette and I guess they had a lot to say about Oliver...

Didn't look like there were that many UNH fans there? This coming weekend will be a big test to see how they hold up against a major program/team. I'll be in the throes of a brand new knee and will be watching from the ice machine haha. EEEK!!!

I was able to listen to the game off of the Maine site. Under the schedule and last nights game you could hit listen.
Obviously a Maine crew working the game, they rarely mentioned the UNH players as they were so new to them. Heard Fitzgerald and Cronin the most and by the third they mention more names. So a bit hard to follow. Initially they were clearly homers but UNH was so clearly dominating them in the first 2, they did finally give them their props. “Fast, structured and very well organized offensively and defensively.” Go figure!
Maine’s second goal, was a fortunate goal and by then they were starting to make the needed adjustments. (Good coaching we could imagine) but we owned most of the play and appear to have found a decent goalie.

Did the "Champions of October" manage to hang on?!?
From the box score it looks like the 'cats faded and UMO picked up the pace as the game progressed. Two GA on 16 SOG = 87.5 save %.

OT, SO wins and losses don't mean diddly especially in a scrimmage.

USCHO doesn't have the result or box score. HEA web site does not have the box score. Scrimmage < exhibition I suppose.

I thought the tilt was tonight until a buddy texted the score this morning lol.

One could make the argument that now would be the time to strike while the iron is hot. Public sentiment of the team and coach Souza is high having such a dominant performance again arch rival Maine. Next weekend has potential to be ugly. Why not try to slide that long term extension with pay raise in while the getting’s good. Watch for AD Rich to announce securing UNH hockey’s proven leader with a 9 year extension of Souza starting at $333k and graduating linearly to $666k in the final season.
