RPI Recruit Thread 2025-2026

Well that’s encouraging.
sorry :-/ he looked pretty solid with sudbury at the end of the season, off chance he gets claimed by another team. when there's only 3 overage spots per team, plenty of talented players end up out of a spot without a standout trait or clear cut role.

It's kind of weird to me that a player who has already proven he can play a contributing role in the league can't find a spot. I know it's only 3 per team but Oshawa had room

sudbury last year wasn't very deep and his foot speed is the concern the wolves had re: keeping him vs other 05s. if he was outplayed in camp by other players the gens already had rights to, then a team would rather just keep those spots empty for an upgrade via trade or in case an NHL team sends a prospect back. dunno how many teams have spots open but he could end up somewhere. iirc he'll pass through waivers first in the OHL and then the other two leagues before anything else happens.

Maybe back to the bchl? I wonder the same thing if he was cut by lang. my prediction is ziliotto, oakenfold, larivirie are cuts.
Those three could certainly be cuts, but would we keep Shaw who had trouble finding a spot last season and hasn't shown up anywhere as far as I can see this year?

Shaw would be another one. He certainly played well last year on a very good Rochester jr team. I think he was a ppg guy or close to it. He also was playing well in the bchl when he was traded from blackfalds. I was able to see him play when he was at Westminster. I like his game a lot. Who knows tho lol

I suspect this is a weird year in general for major junior rosters and teams are feeling things out. Traditionally they were drafting the best 16 year olds that preferred the pro route over college. They’d join the club as 16-18 year olds and play until they were 20 with a few extending for an over-age year. This year they have the entire pool of 16 year-olds plus a raft of 17-19 year olds that originally weren’t available because they want to go to college. Do you keep a decent but not game-changing over-age guy like Zilioto or a newly available 18 or 19 year old who was a hotshot in the USHL, BCHL, etc.? Once again, everything is upended.

Very true

I would cut Shaw. Undersized and did nothing in BCHL last year. Only produced in a weak NAHL. Would also cut Oakenfold. Would wait and see on Lariviere. I still think Ziliotto is good enough.

Lang will most likely cut all of them. That’s a pretty weak group of forwards. He has a top recruiter in Schneider no reason to take on Dave smiths D3 recruits. He has a stud recruiter use him lol

I don't think any of them are D3 types except maybe Oakenfold. But they're nothing special either. Lots up in the air of course, probably will wait and see how they play

Exactly. There isn't any reason to rush anything ....see how their seasons go while you are out beating the bushes for talent. I couldn't help note over the weekend that Merrimack landed to two snipers from the Q including Moncton's leading scorer. Somebody is ponying up the payroll $$$ for the Warriors... Dan Jewell is making it rain....ha ha
