Comparing to where this falls on the calendar with past seasons, I think @sezenack is right in thinking this could be an exhibition/scrimmage that has no Pairwise impact. Is that a carryover from Dave Smith's/Kristie Bowers' plans or is this new under Coach Lang? Even if it was the former, Lang keeping the game would certainly show a willingness to jump into the deep end of the pool right away. An overwhelmingly new roster learning a new system playing a top 5 team on the opening weekend.............
Job security while the Penguins figure out what to do with one of the oldest rosters in the league coming off a sub .500 season.Dan muse hired as the new head coach for penguins. Wonder what that means for Kirk?
It certainly could be either. Last year we opened on that weekend with an exhibition against UMass, but BU opened at home on October 5 with an official game against Holy Cross. It doesn't really matter to me. Regardless of whether it's a real game or exhibition, it's an aggressive move to take what is virtually a completely new team and coaching staff into a game with a top 5 program. I'm looking forward to it.Comparing to where this falls on the calendar with past seasons, I think @sezenack is right in thinking this could be an exhibition/scrimmage that has no Pairwise impact.
That was my first thought too. I doubt Kirk was a serious candidate this time because he just finished his first season at the upper level of the minors. It's better for Kirk to establish himself as a winner in the AHL while someone else has to deal with the rebuilding job in Pittsburgh. He will hopefully have a track record to put him in play when they make the next change.Job security while the Penguins figure out what to do with one of the oldest rosters in the league coming off a sub .500 season.

I believe I read somewhere that BU is hosting Tenn. State the night before ...at least if that program is still in business. No idea.... ha ha,,,Comparing to where this falls on the calendar with past seasons, I think @sezenack is right in thinking this could be an exhibition/scrimmage that has no Pairwise impact.
BU was actually allegedly playing in Nashville that night. TSU seems to be dead.Lang beat No. 1 St. Cloud in the tourney....he's not afraid to play anybody.

I missed it ....Ralph answered it above...sounds like BU is hosting LIU on 10/4BU was actually allegedly playing in Nashville that night. TSU seems to be dead.
I had forgotten about TSU. It still could be born in a year.I missed it ....Ralph answered it above...sounds like BU is hosting LIU on 10/4
Interesting choice by BU as LIU is in a similar situation to us. I would say the same thing about Riley as I did about Lang. It takes guts to bring what amounts to a completely new team to Agganis. That AIC staff was pretty fearless. It will be an interesting two night test of the viability of quickly rebuilding via the portal.BU also hosts LIU on October 4.
Brendan may have cousin Brett to blame for the BU scheduling... who knows ??! LolInteresting choice by BU as LIU is in a similar situation to us. Looked that list over - some of those boys are football linebacker or even lineman size! How many years back do we have to look to find 8 NHL draft choices in total for us?Cornell released their roster! https://cornellbigred.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/roster
includes 8 NHL draft choices
Three of the draft choices are 3rd round. They could get more players drafted this year.Looked that list over - some of those boys are football linebacker or even lineman size! How many years back do we have to look to find 8 NHL draft choices in total for us?
I saw them a couple of times last season and most of their high draft picks weren't that impressive. The two best players were a couple of Bruins prospects, Walsh (a late draft pick) and Bancroft (signed as a FA after the season with Boston). Walsh will be back and I understand they have a defenseman coming in from the USHL that is more like free safety sized but is skilled enough to have been drafted by one of the NY teams and is a top college prospect.Three of the draft choices are 3rd round. As to linebackers, that's normal.![]()
Since 1999 we have had a TOTAL of 9 NHL draft choices. Yes, nine total in the last 25+ years.Looked that list over - some of those boys are football linebacker or even lineman size! How many years back do we have to look to find 8 NHL draft choices in total for us?
