I hadn't realized SCOTUSBlog founder Tom Goldstein is facing federal felony charges. Probably explains the sellout (and his prior op-ed arguing for dropping the criminal charges against Trump, hoping to curry favor).

On January 16, 2025, Goldstein was indicted in Maryland federal court on charges he schemed to evade taxes for years and used funds from his boutique law firm to cover gambling debts. The indictment describes Goldstein as a high-stakes poker player who participated in games with multimillion-dollar stakes. Between 2016 and 2022, he allegedly evaded taxes, filed false returns, and failed to pay tax obligations. Goldstein is accused of using millions from his Bethesda-based law firm, Goldstein & Russell, to cover gambling and personal debts while underreporting his gambling winnings by millions.

In total, it will probably affect somewhere between 5,000 and 6,500 active duty members out of 1.13M. Hence why SCOTUS is telling them to just go ahead. It won't even register on the average American's radar.

It sucks, I hate it. They are good people serving the country. But leave it to the Reich wing to provide a brief, intense high to the cultists that they've been financially and intellectually raping ever since Reagan charmed them into placid little sheep 45 years ago. This is like Fukuyama's premature celebration after the end of the Cold War. It really wasn't about bathrooms. It wasn't about sports. Or the military.

My community is merely a convenient scapegoat for them, something for the common clay of the new West to blame for their lives not going well.

And rather than try to justify my existence, I'll just do what I'm gonna do and let the dinosaurs die out.

Bull...and there is zero chance you would defend Gavin or Schumer if he was doing the same thing.

The only reason anyone is running with the "She is doing it to help Michigan" crap is because she is a likeable and attractive woman with a decent "Q-Rating" who has a shot at higher office. None of the negotiating she is doing is going to do squat for Michigan she knows it and so does everyone with a pulse. (if full on Red States get zilch Purple Michigan is getting less than zilch car industry or no car industry) She is playing the odds...trying to look like "one of the good ones" because the consultant class see her as a way to get White Male Privilege Guilt on her side. You are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

She is not some neophyte babe in the wilderness here...she knows the game and is playing it. The extent that she is "doing it for Michigan" is that she wants to stay popular there so she can bring it to the ticket in '28 as either Veep or Prez.
