University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

After running through several scenarios Maine's fate is still very much up in the air, but these things SEEM to be consistent

Maine wins Hockey East - #3 overall, top seed in Allentown
Northeastern wins Hockey East AND anyone but Western Michigan wins NCHC - #4 overall, top seed in Allentown
Maine wins Thursday but loses Friday AND anyone but Western Michigan wins NCHC - #4 overall, top seed in Allentown
Maine loses Friday AND WMU wins NCHC - Maine #5 overall, 2 seed in Allentown
Maine loses Thursday, BU/UConn win HEA; WMU loses NCHC - Maine #5 overall, 2 seed in Allentown or Fargo
Maine loses Thursday, BU/UConn win HEA; WMU wins NCHC - Maine #6 overall, 2 seed in Allentown or Fargo

In 20,000 scenarios, Maine finished #3 42% of the time; #4 21%; #5 25%; #6 12%

The code to get the special deal on tickets is HE25UMAINE. Loge 10 plus 315 and 316 in the balcony. Loge 11 was added this morning. I think it's 10% off face price and (best of all) no ticketmaster fees

Won't be able to make the Semifinals game but grabbed a ticket in Loge 10 for Friday if they can get to the Final.

Northeastern played with 4 D almost the whole game against BC. If Maine can sustain pressure and get out to a lead it will be a big benefit for the boys

On the bus ride from the Sonesta to the Garden ahead of the 1993 Hockey East tournament several players observed that the marquee at the Boston Museum of Science advertised a bear exhibit that weekend. We took it as an omen.

I notice that this week the Museum of Science will be airing the short film "The Bear and the Squirrel" in the 4-D theater. There are no exhibits, movies or shows dedicated to Huskies or Terriers scheduled.

Make of that what you will :)

Thanks for doing the leg-work. I lack the both the ambition and the brains to pull that off.

(And, if you have the time, running the scenarios after Thursday's games would be great. I need to know who to root for over the weekend, because who I root for matters bigly in the grand scheme of things.)

Clearly an omen.

Was looking at some under the hood numbers of the Huskies lineup earlier and couldn’t help but notice just how top heavy their lineup is.

That starting five is undeniably strong for NU but gotta think Maine’s balanced lineup will serve them well on Thursday.

During the BC game telecast, they talked about how top heavy their top line is. Looking at their team stats:

NU’s first line - Williams (bummer he is a Biddeford native), Lund, and Hryckowian accounted for 114 points of 238 total (47.9%) and 49 goals of 85 (57.65%).

No doubt whatsoever that Ben will game-plan for that. ( I wonder if he'll put the 3rd line out for the opening faceoff?)

Anyhoo, it's a huge advantage to be the "home" team and have the last change vs. what is basically a one-line team.

Nothing is guaranteed, but this is a Hell of a lot better than trying to figure out how to handle a deep BC roster.

It will be interesting to see whether NU will line up 5 guys on the blue line like they did against BC to force them to dump and chase all night. I assume they wont because that strategy will play into Maine's forecheck and their ability to play demolition derby along the boards. Dont believe the BC kids were particularly interested in playing hammer hockey....so NU just sat back at the blue line and waited for a mistake and a chance to counter attack.

I’d put Makar, Renwick and Russell out there against them. That line is great in their own end and extremely heavy in the ozone. Probably a lot of potential for the Freel, Scott and Nadeau line to have a big game if the NU top line gets bottled up.

Just snagged a ticket for Friday night thru the email the UMaine athletic department sent me for $30 all in. Awesome deal!

Boija announced as a finalist for the Richter along with Fowler, Augustine and Tracy. Not sure I can recall seeing four finalists before?

Also, somehow Barr doesn't win COTY. Coaches gave it to Cavanaugh instead.
