College Basketball 2024-25

Michigan men's basketball coach Dusty May has agreed to a new multiyear agreement with the school, athletic director Warde Manuel announced Friday, effectively removing May from consideration for the vacancy at Indiana.
May, a former student manager at Indiana under Bob Knight from 1996 to 2000, had been expected to be one of the Hoosiers' top targets to replace Mike Woodson.

Kansas dropped out of the men's basketball poll for the first time in nearly four years, ending the Jayhawks' ranked run at 80 consecutive weeks.
The Jayhawks were dropped from the poll for the first time since Feb. 8, 2021, when the season was played amid the COVID-19 pandemic. That had ended a record 231 consecutive weeks in the Top 25 for Kansas.

With Michigan’s loss tonight MSU secures a Big Ten championship. Can take it outright with a win tomorrow against Iowa or on Sunday against Michigan.

Lunardi's latest bracket has Kansas in Providence as a 6 seed for the first round. Granted it's fluid, and one or 2 wins or a loss in the conference tournament could change everything. However Providence is less that an hour away, don't need a hotel room, and if they are in Prov for the first round I'm there.

Maine will play for their first ever tournament berth on Saturday at 11am. They are one of six schools around since the inception of the tournament in 1938 to have never made it.

The others are Army, UNH, The Citadel, Denver, and William and Mary. Though I think Maine and Denver are actually out of the “official” inception club since Maine was considered small college at one point and Denver went NAIA and then D2 for a period.

Has the Citadel ever had a single team that was "good" at anything? LOL.

They beat Georgia Tech in football five years ago. But even that team went 6-6.

Fun fact they are one of two D1 schools that do not have women’s basketball. The other is the other non-federal military academy VMI.

Following a legend,
Villanova has fired men's basketball coach Kyle Neptune after three seasons, the school announced Saturday. Neptune, who replaced Jay Wright following the Hall of Famer's retirement in 2022, will end his tenure without an NCAA tournament appearance.
Although Neptune was given the unenviable task of filling the shoes of a coach who led Villanova to two national championships and four Final Fours, he struggled almost immediately to generate sustained momentum.

UNLV men's basketball coach Kevin Kruger is out after four seasons, the school announced Saturday. Kruger went 76-55 overall in his four seasons in Vegas, but the Rebels never reached the NCAA tournament and finished in the top four of the Mountain West standings just once.

Cornell jumps up by 7 over Yale in the conference championship, then goes ice cold and loses.

Fun fact: Cornell was #1 in field goal percentage this season. Not in the Ivies. In the entire D-1.
