119th congress: must be at least 75 to chair a committee!

Lot of people online think he will back down on the tariffs...but not before his buddies can make a bit shorting the dip. A bit conspiratorial but I mean why else even announce such a move?

Because he doesn't understand a goddamn thing. He still thinks that a trade deficit and budget deficit are the same thing.

There is no 4d chess about buying dips and selling when he reverses. He just says the last thing someone told him because he's got a room temp IQ.

Right...i didn't say he is planning it. Think about what you said, and who he has out with. See if you can come up with something plausible ;)

Well of course...but he doesn't care about that its the same scam he has run (3 times already!!!) with crypto. A lot of Chinese Investors and insiders made bank on his memecoins while his followers lost like $2 billion  (which I am cool with phuck them afford eggs now you worthless pieces of crap)

Again, it was too far for me to believe, but it would not be that unprecedented as we know that type of insider trading happens all the time in Washington even with the Dems. And with no SEC breathing down their necks it is open season. As a cynic (and someone who saw what Reaganomics did and still does) I know that even those on our side are going to get rich while screwing us.

Yeah. remember all the selling by both sides just before Congress was going to announce the country was shutting down due to Covid.

All I hear is a lot of whining about having to do their fucking jobs.

Members of the Steering and Policy Committee — with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) in the room — on Monday complained activist groups like MoveOn and Indivisible have facilitated thousands of phone calls to members' offices.
  • "People are pissed," a senior House Democrat who was at the meeting said of lawmakers' reaction to the calls.
  • The Democrat said Jeffries himself is "very frustrated" at the groups, who are trying to stir up a more confrontational opposition to Trump.
  • A Jeffries spokesperson disputed that characterization and noted to Axios that their office regularly engages with dozens of stakeholder groups, including MoveOn and Indivisible, including as recently as Monday

I tried to tell you guys...this is not who you want in charge when we are at war.

I have nothing against Jeffries personally, I think he is fine as a rep and in a normal Congress with a normal President he would be a fine minority leader and even maybe Speaker. But right now he doesn't have the strength or the mettle to meet the moment. He has the wrong messages (Billionaires are not the problem, we cant do anything cause we have no power) and he is too weak willed to do what has to be done. I have zero faith he will even seriously threaten a shutdown which is the only chip they have to play. He is so afraid of upsetting the voters that he is alienating everyone. We need someone like AOC as Leader, she gets it. She started a war with Pelosi over environmental rights long before she had any real cache...she isn't there to be liked and re-elected she is there to fight. We need that not wannabe Obama Speeches and telling us stuff about God. I know they think people want Bipartisanship, but we are past that now. You can't bargain with the devil, and you branded Trump as such so now its time to play the game. Politics is now sports...and no one wants to see the Yankees and Red Sox team up.

The only one worse than him is every Senate Leader though. The Senate is literally built to give the minority party powers to protect against the tyranny of the majority, and Schumer could care less. He and Jeffries are of the same cloth...they are the British and French Generals in WWI who had no idea how to fight against machine guns so they just walked millions of soldiers right up against them and watched entire generations die. They both think that if they just let Trump do what he wants the voters will vote him and his people out when it fails. And even if Trump wasn't stacking the deck by cutting election oversight and cybersecurity the voters aren't going to blame him. He tells so many people so many things that it is hard to convince people he is lying since he talks out of both sides of his mouth.

The Dems have to start to understand that the vast majority of this country is politically illiterate and the average American reads at a 6th grade level. They have no idea what the policies are or how they affect them all they know is what they read on the internet, see in commercials or hear in videos on Tik Tok. The Dems are trying to explain Relativity to people who have yet to pass Middle School Science. The voters don't want flowery language and to be preached to...they want to hear how it affects them. And not in some roundabout way, just the straight facts. Plain language. Harris was good at that...until former Obama and Biden clowns took over her campaign. If you go back you can find the moment. She went from inspiring, to just another Dem taking their cues from the nimrods at Pod Save America.

If anything, Dems in blue areas are gonna have to push further left to get people out for them. Everyone is sick of the current BS and established members stand a chance at being primaried if they aren't careful.

People active in politics are gonna be pissed off in 2026 while others just give up and don't show.

For shits and giggles, I went and looked at a list of 6th grade words. If it's true that the average American reads at a 6th grade level, considering the words I saw listed, they should not have that much difficulty understanding a policy and how it will impact them. At that point it boils down to tribalism, a penchant for hate/cruelty/Schadenfreude, and a denialist belief that they will be exempt from said policy.

I compared it to a list of 10th grade SAT words. Many of the SAT words are words I use at least a few times a week, but I'm a little surprised a 10th grader would be expected to know what aphasia, inchoate, and lachrymose mean. Those aren't common words, very few people seriously study Greek or Latin (certainly not at the grade school level), and two of them are basically medical terms.

And yes, I fully acknowledge that I myself am amped to feel some Schadenfreude for poor and middle class white people in the coming months. The majority of them voted for this, so they can feel the pain of the consequences for my amusement. I have plenty of time to adjust to new policy by planning and saving, but Boomtards counting on SS to supplement whatever IRA/401k savings they have (and likely started later in life) are totally out of runway.

The 6th grade level thing is what we as educators are told and I believe studies have been done backing it up. Rural education and Red State mismanagement kill the average.

Its not the words that matter...I bet most 6th grade English Students can read the words in classic literature. Its about the context, can they read it and understand what it means? In 7th grade I read at a college level but I couldn't tell you what Plato was saying in his writings despite being able to read it.

The best way to look at is this...on their face a lot of things Elmo says (or Joe Rogan, or any number fake smart people) make sense. In a vacuum we should be cutting waste, paring down the Federal Government and curb spending. Men shouldn't be demonized and White People shouldn't be held back. (please note: it makes my skin crawl writing that sentence I am just saying in the head of a 6th grader those statements would ring true) Our debt is stupid high and puts us at serious risk. Couching these illegal DOGE actions in that has curbed a lot of the outrage. (with help of the media) We have so many problems at home why spend $50 million on condoms in Mozambique what about the people dying of Fentanyl? Why are we importing things from Canada why can't we make those things here? To the average American those are legit questions with rather simple answers. We can name off a dozen reasons why all of those questions are stupid (especially the ones about social issues) but we understand the context. They don't, because they don't have (or want) the knowledge base to do so. Its the difference between Barack Obama and Don King. Both can use big words, but only one understands what they are saying and makes sense doing it.

I said this yesterday...my dad is all for the cuts at USAID. Even though he wants the military cut more (which isn't happening) he sees it as a waste of resources because he really doesn't know what they do or how it affects people here. He understands Social Security though and the idea that DOGE might screw with that makes him scared and angry.

Put it this way...do you think the average student protesting over Gaza at Columbia or the University of Minnesota or any of the other countless universities across the country understand the hypocrisy of them doing so on the land we stole from the Native Americans? (better yet, are they going to give it back...along with the houses their moms and dads own, the businesses they work at) Sea to Shining Sea are the Natives allowed to be free? Do you think the average American who wants more American products understands how much the cost of goods will skyrocket if it is made here? Of course not. The average American still thinks the only people who work at Fast Food spots are kids (how dare they want a living wage) and that Welfare is enough money to feed a family of four on. They can't tell you the 3 branches of Government or how they affect them and if you ask them the policies of the person they voted for it will be the most vague (and often wrong) crap you will ever hear.
