  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

We're back

I ran four dry runs. The first took 18 hours. I figured out that I could multithread the command line importer and it got down to three hours. The final import took two because I had all the steps on a checklist. I didn’t want to lose the old threads. If it had come to it, we would have kept the old server open with posting turned off as an archive.

The developers of xenForo did an outstanding job on the importer. The admin area is really well organized.

The web server, OpenLiteSpeed, has a xenForo caching plugin that optimizes the memory cache.

Keeping my fingers crossed for game night. I’m on a plane to Air Force to broadcast RIT and won’t be able to watch it.
You are a king among men.

I'm still having the same issues as the previous version where not all Threads show up.
For example, the Dump 2.0 one showed up on the desktop version as the most recent thread when looking at fanforum.uscho.com.

However, when i click on the Cafe, it doesn't show up in my list of threads.

I am able to watch it so I get notifications but I'm also curious what other threads I'm missing.

New look is nice. One thing i can't find that the old platform was where to click to to "most rcent unread post" in a thread. Is that hiding somewhere?

Clicking on the thread title takes you to the first unread post unless it's your first time in that thread... then it takes you to the first post.

Ah so it does! I think the issue was doing 'first clicks' on threads i'd not read on this platform even if i'd read them on the other. It's taking me to first unread now.
Thanks

Has anyone figured out how to add someone to the block list?

When I look at ignore tab, there is no button to add name- I only see a button to “Unignore “ anyone that was already on your list

I'm on desktop, but if you click their name on a post you can click ignore, then their posts and threads are ignored.

I don’t know what you mean.
You have an openly racist, homophobic, transphobic bigot who regularly posts here. They add no content to non-political discussions and often spout hateful rhetoric. (hence why they will never see this post here in this thread in all likelihood)

Ed, I’m seeing formatting issues on the sticky threads. Is anyone else having that issue?
I think it's because of the Google ads. I don't know for sure how to fix that immediately because we use the automatic placement of ads version.

I passed the issue along to our owner who has access to Google AdSense for the site.

It has nothing to do with the ads. The posts are now vertical - meaning one letter per line. It just started a couple of days ago.

The ads are forcing the posts to squeeze into a narrow space, causing that. For example:
