Look, I'd love to jump on Drew as well on this, but the plans hadn't even been approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (and likely a US Army Corp of Engineer review as well). Areas improved like this may also include land swaps, where new wetlands are built to offset the displaced wetlands.

The residents 86'd what sounds like a decent idea before it could even be scrutinized and reviewed. This sounds more like a NIMBY problem.

Wetlands can also be offset/moved. Last highway project I was on saw a detention pond/wetland being sliced in half for the new highway, but a new detention pond/wetland area was to be created 1000' away via a spillway.
 
A lot of the area I live in now was swamp land and marshland. I dont see the problem with putting homes there as long as it is offset.

This. You can’t say if a wetland should be filled or not until the studies have been done by environmental experts.

considering these asshats vote for Susan, I don’t think they rejected this because of the environmental impacts
 
Oh god... they damaged a transformer? Last I checked, those were like 12-24 month leads. I assume the government can get involved and force TC to the front of the line, but still. This is insane and stupid.

You'd be correct on your delivery estimate (maybe even low depending on KVA) and your assessment.

But where are you reading "transformer" and "they". I'm hoping it's more ... this. (Not sure when/where on that image, but same happened just west of me about six weeks ago.)

Interesting. With the b*tching in the comment sections and all the news articles from the Great Lakes states, they make it sound like they're in the Southeast.
 
Interesting to see the struggles of Appalachia depicted there...

I guess that goes to show that everything is relative...
 
My guess for the red in SD and NE are that those are mainly Native American Reservations. Looks near Rapid City, SD, and Chadron, NE. The Southeast along the TN/NC border is a combination of high-end rental properties, coupled with service/hospitality workers and Native Americans living in those counties.

It is Rapid City, but not a reservation. (Reservations are mainly grey, e.g. Sioux County ND, on the border.)

Rapid City, and Sturgis, and the dark reds in MT, are retirement (nice relative climate) and resort areas.

A relative sold their skiing/snowmobiling condo in Big Sky MT for 4x what they paid for it 12 years ago.

Fair enough. My sister used to live in Chadron and worked on Pine Ridge for a number of years. One of, if not the poorest, counties in the entire country.
