My daughter's used Fire tablet we got for $20 at a garage sale is dying. We waited till Prime Day to replace it because they're half off.

Was debating replacing my old ass kindle paper white (Gen 1?) with the more recent model that can do inverted colors. Helpful for reading in bed when my wife is trying to sleep.

Something I've also seen as of late regarding restaurants:

I've seen signs asking for payments in Cash at several restaurants. A couple state on the signs that they pay $Xxxx/month in processing fees.

I'm torn on this. I get that profits are tight. But I'm also wondering if this is a trend to just get more money out of each customer and isn't necessity when it comes to the bottom line.

I've gone cashless basically. Outside of the $5 I always keep on hand I don't think I've had cash on my person going back to well before the Pandemic. Getting cash just makes things more inconvenient for me. AITA for seeing it this way?

Unless they have separate prices for cash only, they've already factored the processing fees into their pricing. Or at least I hope they have by now...

Asking for cash only is just raising their prices by 4% without printing it on the menu.

This. Either charge a fee for card use or raise prices.

Yeah unless it is some tiny mom and pop place they are full of crap. If they actually had an issue they would add the "x% surcharge to" bs line on the bottom like places do now. (the one they say is not a tip but goes to pay higher wages...which is a fucking lie too)

I do love when conservatives I know whine about that on Twitter though. Especially ones who have no issue wasting way more money on way more selfish things.

The efforts by the Amazon warehouse workers in Alabama to unionize under the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union may have failed, but it has awakened a giant union effort from one of the largest unions in the nation. Where the RWDSU was your average video game enemy, the boss battle has emerged:

Teamsters is now looking at unionizing every single Amazon driver.
It’ll probably happen…

After the current leadership at the Teamsters is voted out.

lol Prime Day is the day that Amazon gives you THE BEST DEALS EVVVVAAAAAAH!!!! So you should buy everything because it's such an amazing deal. But really, it's the same price that it is the rest of the year. The Amazon devices like Fire Tablets and Kindles and stuff are decent deals usually, but they'll be available at the same prices several times throughout the year. Basically it is summer time Black Friday on Amazon, only no chance of actually being trampled.

Like DGS's scented dog poo bags, I bought some of those a couple weeks ago and I'd bet if we got the same qty we were within 50 cents on the price.

If it's the same price why are people who buy that day suckers? Because the increased traffic will mean longer delivery times?

Doesn't seem to matter to me.

Are you joking? If not, maybe the most Kepler post ever

Guilty. Not joking.

I think it's more impulse buying things you wouldn't otherwise buy due to the illusion of a deal and getting sucked in to the moment.

"And if you call before midnight tonight..."

Yes, I can see that. Any time there is any pressure for a sale I immediately exit because it tells me they are moving bad inventory.

For the same reason people are suckers for saving 10 cents on a gallon of gas if they buy a $9 car wash they don't need for their 12 gallon car. (if you have seen Super Troopers, think Farva and the Free Hot Dog) For the same reason people flock to stores to save 5% off something that cost like $5 and end up spending $100. (we call this "Going to Target") They are sheep that see "DEAL" and think "ERR ME GERD I HAVE TO HAVE DAT!!1!!1"

Now to be fair sometimes you do need something (like dog poop bags) and if so you might find a better price on Prime Day or Black Friday or Digital Monday or whatever. In truth though most of the deals you see on Prime Day are available year round as others said especially on Amazon products. It is kind of like Kohl's (which I am guessing you have never been to) where they put the "retail price" on the tag and cross it out and put the "sale price" underneath. The thing is the price is ALWAYS the sale price they are just pretending that your purchase today is special. And it friggin works...so you have [people buying twice as much junk so the overworked warehouse people are even more overworked and the independent contractor drivers are delivering twice as many packages for not much more pay.

To each their own...but considering many of the people whining about Bezos and his taxes/space company/huge yacht/crappy pay for employees are spending thousands a year to fund him it is pretty weak. Reminds me of companies like Goldman-Sachs putting out tweets about Pride while funding campaigns of people who would sooner Gays be burned at the state than have rights.

(as I said in another thread...I am guilty too but am working on it)
