Exactly. It's like when GOP Members b-tch that unemployment pays too much.
Go fuck yourself. Pay more.
This. Unemployment replaces just a fraction of pay, and the GQP whine like it's a total salary replacement.
For Michigan: Take your best three consecutive months of pay over the last year, multiply that number by 0.041, and round that down to the nearest whole number. That is your weekly benefit amount. Max pay per week is capped at $362 (not including the temporary government bonus).
For Illinois, take your two best quarters of pay over the last year, add them together, multiply that number by 0.47, then divide that number by 26. Max pay per week is capped at $471.
So, a line cook in Michigan being paid $9.25/hr got laid off during the pandemic. She's only making $19,240 before taxes. Take home is ~$14,000. Best quarter is $4,440. (That's *three months pay*). On unemployment she's now getting $182 a week. That works out to ~$4.50/hr.
A sales associate in Illinois making making $29/hr also was laid off during the pandemic. He made $60,320 before taxes. Take home is ~$42,200. Two best quarters equal $30,160. Under Illinois math, that's a weekly amount of $545. Max weekly benefits of $471. That works out to ~$11.78/hr.
*edit* Don't forget to take taxes and social security out of your unemployment insurance payout, because that's technically income. So lop off 20%? $140/$370 take home per week for these two respectively?
And on top of that, they now have to pay for healthcare. Because that's somehow fucking tied to employment, and fuck the unemployed.
