No Twitter. I’ll try gpl but I haven’t logged in there since rube and others “sssshhhhhhed” me for saying I had covid. Couldn’t talk about it. Checked last month and people saying way more controversial things with no one flipping out

I have no idea why these people are the way they are but they are ubiquitous. I just started posting on a Mets reddit board. Previously, I had always posted on boards that were at lest implicitly filtered by education, so this is the first time I've seen the Great Unwashed in their natural habitat. It's culture shock. I knew they'd be jaw-droppingly stupid, I went to high school, but I didn't know they'd all be so filled with hatred and violence.
The low brows aren't just dumb, they're vicious.

I know you are kidding...but honestly the best way to put it is this. Imagine Scooby...now imagine he is the AVERAGE POSTER on GPL. That is why I left. (and I like Scooby! It is the below average posters that are the problem)
It was on every topic, from politics to sports to beer to whatever. It is a board filled with Randy Quaid from Major League 2.
Sometimes it is really funny and leads to hilarious memes. (like the time the Gophs tied a game and it was one of the top 5 worst losses in program history!) That has been eroded away though. Pessimism and cynicism isnt bad (I am quite the cynic) but when it prevents you from feeling joy when things go well it just isnt worth the time ya know?
I know that the Twins will likely lose to the Yankees in the playoffs and that will be annoying, but I am going to enjoy the hell out of the run up to that point. Hell I bet now one of two things is going on in the Wild discussion. Either some are pumping the team up way too high (so when they fall they can wallow in their own self pity) OR they are dismissing the current Wild run and upcoming playoffs as worthless since they won't likely win the Cup. This is how it always played out.
GPL basically turned into "Whine Line" after the game is over. 24/7. About EVERYTHING! (except maybe Nachos and Banana Bread...though even that gets heated)

I call them the "Suicide Squad." They are a mix of people who have to crap on other people's enthusiasm and people who think being negative is being profound.
The awful thing is they aren't posers... they're really like that. Their narcissism is expressed through their unrelenting criticism. Their lives are awful therefore everything is awful. They are like those women who complain "all men are terrible." I always want to say: you know something? After the fifth or sixth one, maybe it's you who are terrible.

Huh. Second time in a week my name and GPL came up. Someone texted me and said my name came up there a week or so ago.
I won't talk about why I got banned (I regret what I said and I don't think it's who I am anymore), but I left that board over a year before I was banned.

For your average MDSTMB it's not that bad. Certainly nowhere near as bad as USCHO at its peak. I have Bonin on ignore which helps. Yeah there is some hand-wringing after a Gophers loss but there's some decent commentary as well. Heck even Hammy has shown himself a handful of times of late and I enjoy his insight.

Most of us could have told you that. Yang is a one note candidate (UBI) who is nothing but a Silicon Valley version of unqualified clowns who run for office. The man has no real ideas, no expertise and has zero ability to build a coalition. He is the type who lobbies to move the needle on topics, btu he would be an epic disaster in any sort of political leadership role. Even before this article I always felt he would be an awful mayor. He is Ben Carson with better rhetoric.

Speaking as a strong proponent of UBI who really appreciates Yang making the concept better known, I agree fully. Yang should be a business dweeb on one of those blue ribbon commissions. As the lead guy he's a joke and will just hand the election to whoever he runs against.
