The Beer Belly Putsch was a failed military coup.
Dozens of members of former President George W. Bush's administration are reportedly planning to leave the Republican Party following the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, citing the party's ongoing embrace of former President Trump.
Sources told Reuters that as many as 60 former officials would leave the party in the coming days, with at least one also citing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-Ga.) promotion of conspiracy theories as another reason for their exit.
“If it continues to be the party of Trump, many of us are not going back,” said Rosario Marin, a former U.S. Treasury official, told the news service. “Unless the Senate convicts him, and rids themselves of the Trump cancer, many of us will not be going back to vote for Republican leaders.”
Jimmy Gurulé, a former Treasury undersecretary, added that the Republican Party as he knew it "no longer exists."
"I’d call it the cult of Trump,” he said.
“The number [of defections] is growing every day," said Kristopher Purcell, a Bush White House communications staffer, according to Reuters.
It would be nice to think of them as being brave, but I see them as cowards. Instead of fighting for the party, they just give up. Nice.
That's like if Democrats just gave up on this country because of the dump cult, but we didn't- we fought back, and are trying to regain control.

This is a bad take. There has never been a party less worth fighting for than the Dump cult. I'm with these guys 100%. I will not vote for another Republican until Dumpism is purged. It would be nice to think of them as being brave, but I see them as cowards. Instead of fighting for the party, they just give up. Nice.
That's a direct consequence of having an all-volunteer military. You get more dumb-dumbs with fewer opportunities and little exposure to colors and cultures other than their own to put on the uniform than you do smarties.
That doesn't mean we need to bring back the draft though. It means we have to find ways to make military service a more attractive choice than racking up $40+k in student loans to attend Middle Buttnugget State U.

Shrink the military. At this point the military is welfare for rural whites. There is no reason to have millions of Americans trained in weapons of mass death. We only do it for two reasons:
(1) maintain the .01%ers' global extractive economic empire by deadly coercion
(2) give government cheese to hayseed conservatives with no mental or moral capacity to do honest work
For a Democrat, sure. But I'm advocating is real R's fight against the dunp cult within the party. The fact that they just gave up, well... I guess that does mean the party is really worth nothing.
But I really see the weak sauce of the racist party members being so upset NOW, 4 years after they got their precious tax cuts. The writing was on the wall back in 2016, but they caved in to get the white house. I know I've posted my story about me having lunch with my conservative friend predicting that dumpy was going to destroy his party way back in mid 2016.
The fact that they did nothing back then, but somehow 1/6/2021 was the final tipping point- they are cowards.
For sure, I applaud the idea that the racists will fracture apart into nothing. And hope that the future comes in 2022, where they are largely nothing left to organize around. Not only will that help the 2022 mid terms, that may deliver Michigan completely back to adults with our redistricting finishing late this year.
CNN reporting that of the first 80 people arrested in the Insurrection...10% didn't even bother to vote in the 2020 Election.
More of that, please. As in fewer of them voting.
The UMass Lowell professor who tracks these types of people say that this lack of voting indicates people moving towards militias due to a lack of trust in government. I don't know that I would cheer on that behavior - short-term gains vs. societal upheaval.
I think you’re looking for too much logical thought from the people who thought storming the US Capitol Building would change the outcome of a certified election.
