Dead Thread - 2020

Saw him play in the 1994 World Cup that was in the US. Foxboro was one of the locations of the preliminary rounds. Greece was one of the home teams there and one of my relatives was redo for getting the Greek team to this location and the morning of the very first game, they called and said they had tickets, did I want to go? Um, yes! Greece played the Diego Maradona-led Argentine team. Smoked Greece 4-0. The Argentinian crowd was loud and crazy. Cool experience.

My only brush with Argentine soccer was when some Argentine club was playing a friendly in Portland. A planeful had just flown into PDX and there was an enormous crowd of fans milling about the airport. Every woman between the ages of 14 and 54 was a 10.

Former RPI PA announcer and publisher of the Intercollegiate Hockey Newsletter Don Birkmayer passed away on 11/5/20. :-(

As you probably know, in later life he moved to Ithaca. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/na...?pid=197050022

Everything good at RPI leaves for Ithaca.

The Middle Collegiate Church, in the East Village.

This is a tragedy. The MCC was a beautiful piece of a history and a sublime example of Art Nouveau.

Due equally to our short history and our bankrupt commercial culture we have so little of real beauty in public architecture in this country. The MCC was one of those things, and now it is gone.

Saw him hit so many tape measure home runs. A fearsome hitter in his prime.

I'll miss General Yaeger tremendously. also Paul Sarbanes, a senator from MD and co-author of the Sarbanes -Oxley act which modified corp accounting rules in the mid 90's.A very smart guy and someone who I really respected.
