Paul Hornung, 84
David Dinkins, first and only black NYC mayor, 93.
Always felt he was not one of the best mayors in NYC history. But he has gained stature in my mind when compared to what is there now.
One of the greatest, though undoubtedly controversial.Diego Maradona, 60.
Saw him play in the 1994 World Cup that was in the US. Foxboro was one of the locations of the preliminary rounds. Greece was one of the home teams there and one of my relatives was redo for getting the Greek team to this location and the morning of the very first game, they called and said they had tickets, did I want to go? Um, yes! Greece played the Diego Maradona-led Argentine team. Smoked Greece 4-0. The Argentinian crowd was loud and crazy. Cool experience.
VAR in the sky...Which means he was taken by the Handball of God.
I saw that and thought “isn’t that the game where Maradona scored and then ran to the camera like a coked out madman?” Looked it up, yeah it was.I believe you got to see his last goal for Argentina. Pretty special.
One of the greatest, though undoubtedly controversial.
In the 1986 World Cup Semis he scored two legendary goals against England, the “Hand of God” and the ”Goal of the Century”.
