I've only seen 3 of the 10 best picture nominees. Barbenheimer and The Holdovers. Oppenheimer was good but not something I'll watch again. The Holdovers was great, not best movie great, but I'd watch it again.
I've actually seen Barbie multiple times. When it was announced I had no intention of seeing it, then friends talked about it and I felt a need to see it. Margot was great in the role, but I'm not surprised it wasn't considered an Oscar worthy performance. I do think Greta was snubbed. The mix of doll like and reality is creative and great. I still can't get over the perfection of Margot's posture as she goes down the slide in Barbieland.

After reading this thread I will likely go home and watch Maestro. After watching an interview about Poor Things I think I want to see that one as well. I read Killers of the Flower Moon and don't think I can sit through the movie because the reality is too disturbing.

Totally get not wanting to sit through flower moon. I will never watch that again. However, lily gladstones performance was excellent

I didn't see any of the movies...but I havent heard anyone say that any of the directors nominated are worthy of being replaced by Gerwig.

It looks like a high school production of the original. Wesley looks 15 years old. They should have cast Kelly Lynch.

Nichols and May -- Take Two. Documentary on TCM at 8 tonight. These two together were hilarious. After that Elaine May and Walter Matthau are in A New Leaf at 9:15.

Saw Poor Things, it's amazing. My choice for Best Pic, Screenplay, and Best Actress (Stone).

Best Pic: Poor Things
Adapted Screenplay: Poor Things
Original Screenplay: Holdovers
Score: Maestro
Song: I'm Just Ken
Cinematography: Poor Things
Visual Effects: Oppenheimer
Costume: Barbie

Best Director: Greta Gerwig
Lead M: Bradley Cooper
Lead F: Emma Stone
Supporting M: Robert Downey
Supporting F: Da'Vine Joy Randolph

I didn't make it past 30 minutes of the first one.

The first half of the first one was fine. The problem is, everything interesting after page 70 in the book is metaphysics, and it is very hard to make a movie for herpa-derps about that.

I thought Dune was great. Especially after what Lynch did with it.

The production value was great. The problem is the point of the novel is not something that is good for a movie. Same problem as Ender's Game. The "action" is cerebral. Maybe Tarkovsky could have done it, but no other SF director.
