UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

The problem with the bros. is that Maine is depending on them to be the stars and they are freshmen. And one of them is a bit of a one trick pony IMO. They are better suited to be on a 3rd line at BC than a 1st line at Maine.

Losing 5 of last 6, what a tough pill to swallow for the team down the stretch. Not a real big surprise to some of us. The pressure got to them.
However this ends, the team should still be proud of the season, easy to say, but good things came of it in a few different forms. They were never going to win HE nor go deep in ncaa anyways.
WIn tonight and at least one from umass next weekend, it sets things up for a better summer and next season.
Resolve any locker room issues which I suspect are creeping up. Why, Im seeing a certain player being open and the mates not passing it to him. Theres a forward line that just cant play D, some of the line just dont work all that hard in comparison, talented yes. Players notice this and its how different camps get set up in the locker room. Hopefully Barr knows how to deal with that.

On another note was watching Breen and Scott last night in particular, what absolute gems to have. Breen a smaller guy is a hell of a player down low. Can handle the big guys on the boards and come away with the puck. One offensive rush late in the game in particular you could just see his intensity to make something happen, he did it all himself and made some great plays in the process. Clearly frustrated with their play.
Hope he comes back.
Enough ranting, sitting in the hotel in burlington thinking about the game.
GO Maine!!

I haven’t noticed one player being open and not being passed to. Who is it, and why does this have to be a secret? If you are observing this we could at least see if it continues to happen.

GO Maine!!

Tonight is Vermont’s Senior night. That’s gonna make a win all the more difficult. I’m sure uvm will be playing extra hard for their goalie…the one guy who stole many games the past few seasons

and re:Barr knowing how. Let’s hope so, but remember what Grant was like as a head coach. Grant was one of the very best recruiters ever, but was a terrible head coach and he admitted it.

lately, Barr’s been one of the best recruiters in college hockey

we might want to recognize that Drew was right in his prediction for the last 8 games this season…and he’s also right about the quality of recruits that Ben has coming in. (Brad was Red’s…and Josh came with the package).

and it kills me to agree with ‘91 (mainefaninLA, mr. Whinesalot…that as soon as that contract was signed, the team turned into a dump and chase/ turnover Gendron machine)

See it more so live, tv might not catch it. Could really see it last night from our advantage. Dont really like singling out players.

He has the second most assists on the team by 1. He isn’t a one trick pony. He could back check more consistently. Maine needs more scoring punch, not less. Down the stretch here since beginning of February Maine is about 2 goals for a game. So the offense has been an issue when other teams tightened up their defense at crunch time. I’d take as many Brad Nadeau’s as they’ll give us. And Josh Nedeau’s too!

Yup. I predicted after the colgate series we might go 50% for the remaining. Still could, but that might have been optimistic.
Its surely a work in progress. Two more years.

In all honestly they need something like this in their growth. It could help them take the next step and become elite next year but they need to get back to fundamentals these last 3 games guys are pressing too hard to get to the next level and regressing by doing so

Don't we think it's a little early for all the doom-and-gloom? Yes, it's been a bad stretch, but come on people, it's just a stretch. If they look like this again next season for an extended period then I'll be concerned. And isn't it a little quick to turn on the coach already, we were anointing him savior mere months ago and now people are trying to place him as lazy and complacent. Let's pump the brakes all around, people.

I think for me the most disappointing thing about this stretch is that it has happened two years in a row. Maine would do well next year to schedule BC in February so they have some guaranteed wins.

I see people on here pushing the narratives that Maine is both young and building towards something but not sure how much truth there is in either. A lot of the key players are in their third, fourth, or fifth year and will be gone after next season. Maine definitely will be competitive/respectable as long as the Nadeaus are around but after that it is going to be tough unless there is some sort of major change in the recruiting. Transfers could help but I think best case is you get someone who is solid more than anything else.

With all of that being said Maine still is very likely to make the NCAA tourney this year. They very well could get a decent draw and surprise a team or two if they can get back to playing something close to their best.

I think the doom and gloom is warranted because the product we are seeing lately is bad. Bad penalties. Defensive breakdowns. Backchecking mishaps. Heads down going to the bench. They are in their own heads. The only way out of this is to get their minds in a place where they can focus on fundamentals.

Early in the season they would go down in the first and excel in the second and in the third impose their will with effort and determination. This isn't happening right now. It needs to start happening again tonight. They got real lucky with the results last night but need 3 points tonight period.

It starts with the Nadeaus. They were able to overcome their deficiencies in the previous ranks because their skill was so much higher then their opponents. They are easily frustrated now with better competiton and need to lead the way tonight with grit and toughness and get some greasy goals not highlight reel stuff

What this team needs is Prestin Ryan, a one man breakout and could smack a few folks around in practice. Or Jeremy Swayman : )

Be nice if they right the ship tonight At this point I see one and done in HE tourney and an absolute shellacking in national tourney, if they even get there??

My guess…they win one in the hockey east tourney. The get the 6 seed, play lowell at home on weds, then get smoked in providence

Some of you guys are out of your trees

The 3rd yr of Ben is gonna be our first 20 win season in like a dozen years

The 3rd yr of Red was 8 wins.

THAT was the sky is falling. This is simply the team aint as good as it looked in December and it aint as good as BC. Doesnt mean its bad!

Timmy won 33 games in his third season. Why do you think that was?

I think expectations were exceeded and after that happened we expected it to continue. You must admit they have fallen off the cliff lately.
Once the season is over folks might be a bit more rational

I see better days ahead as coach gets recruits rolling and the alfond rehab gets done.
Maine isnt ever going to get a team full of nhl recruits and coach knows that. Have to get it done with a cohesive team full of decent players. It will come.

I mean yeah they’re not a top 5 team in the country but they’re legit top 15-20 which is a heckuva lot better than 58th or whatever it was the the decade plus without any hope

I havent lost any belief in Ben. Anyone who has isnt using his eyes
