UMass wins in OT. Maine now in 5th in hockey east. Need the win tomorrow to go to 4th and send Providence to 5th.

Depressing, really. I didn't even think they played that badly tonight, their finishing ability has just completely evaporated.

If you want a bright spot, I felt like I noticed Holt a lot in a good way tonight, he made some good plays on both ends of the puck.

I think I’m driving home in the daylight tomorrow. The sweep at unh was bad, but right by my home.

The sweep at UNH was appalling but that place has been a horror show off and on for them. Tonight was just a weak performance against a mediocre opponent. Elite teams find a way to win tonight. They are broke right now.

Im staying, already bought tickets.
Will watch the complete cave down the stretch here.
Folks sitting near us said VT hadn't played this well all year.

Holt has reminded me of Imes since he started playing for Maine…and Charbrier is 5 times better a stickhandler than anyone else on the team (besides Josh)

A recurring theme. The other team plays it's best game of the year. The boys can't take a target on their back. They have 3 more targets coming. Need to figure it out fast because they are sputtering hard

I think Im noticing some inter player problems. It can come with losing but they gotta let that go.

Looking on the national picture, Maine will remain in ninth since St Cloud, Western Michigan and Providence have all lost/are losing and UMass went to OT. More good news for Maine is that Providence fell to a 4 seed with that loss and is squarely on the bubble. The Friars aren't the host in Providence, but history shows that the NCAA treats them as one. Getting them out of the 2/3 band opens an extra spot for the Black Bears.

Edit: CC joined the crowd and couldn't find a winner against UMD so the Tigers and Friars swapped places. And just to add to the fun, Omaha is now on the bubble. The Mavs host in Sioux Falls...

I'm looking at you top line..figure it out

"Two guys didn’t backcheck, they score and we take a penalty,” said UMaine head coach Ben Barr. “That changed the whole dynamic of the game.”

To lose 5 of the last 6 after reaching top 5 in the country in the polls and #1 pairwise team is a hard slide.

It seemed to start with goal tending which definitely cost them games, then the top line, referring, now defense, effort, puck luck mattering more as the games margin is razor thin….like a house of cards all falling apart.

Let's face it...we were spoiled/fooled by the 12-3-1 start and that they really are a 7-7-1 team...good one night...bad the next..don't like saying it,but really just watch the product...especially after the break.

Disappointing loss for sure. If they had played the first half of the game with the same urgency they did in the second half, results may have differed. As if they finally realized VT was not going to be a pushover they decided they better play hard. Its a head scratcher for sure. Cmon Maine, get that phkn VT monkey off your back and grab a needed win tonight, geeeesch.

Losing 5 of last 6, what a tough pill to swallow for the team down the stretch. Not a real big surprise to some of us. The pressure got to them.
However this ends, the team should still be proud of the season, easy to say, but good things came of it in a few different forms. They were never going to win HE nor go deep in ncaa anyways.
WIn tonight and at least one from umass next weekend, it sets things up for a better summer and next season.
Resolve any locker room issues which I suspect are creeping up. Why, Im seeing a certain player being open and the mates not passing it to him. Theres a forward line that just cant play D, some of the line just dont work all that hard in comparison, talented yes. Players notice this and its how different camps get set up in the locker room. Hopefully Barr knows how to deal with that.

On another note was watching Breen and Scott last night in particular, what absolute gems to have. Breen a smaller guy is a hell of a player down low. Can handle the big guys on the boards and come away with the puck. One offensive rush late in the game in particular you could just see his intensity to make something happen, he did it all himself and made some great plays in the process. Clearly frustrated with their play.
Hope he comes back.
Enough ranting, sitting in the hotel in burlington thinking about the game.
GO Maine!!

I don't think lack of effort is a problem.
