UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Yeah…that’ll happen when the D is not clearing out the front of the net and the opponent gets chance after chance… (I wonder how much of that is on Ostman (like was he giving up too many rebounds that just landed loose in the crease?)

Win as a team and lose as a team...no excuses.

I think Boo Boo needs to go *every* night from here on out. These PC games are PW gold, and a sweep would put Maine in great shape for HE.

I feel bad for Victor, but this is a no-brainer to me. Even last year when he put up decent numbers, he didn't really pass the eye-test to me, and right now he's playing like a #3.

I actually thought Ostman made some strides by correcting a few small details in his game and expected that to carry over into this season, which is why it's strange to see him revert back to old habits we saw his first couple seasons (and makes me think he's not 100% healthy).

Ideally Barr can ride Boija both games this weekend. If Boija has a bad game Friday, maybe you go back to Ostman on Saturday, but this feels like a spot where Barr should ride the hot hand and give Ostman a little break and then work him back into a rotation as the schedule eases up.

Makes perfect sense to me.

That’s why I asked what would happen to Ostman if he didn’t see the net this coming weekend, and put the O/U on Boija starts at 7.5 for the rest of the 10 games this season.

When does it ease up?

Top 10 National match up/HE #3 vs #4 this weekend vs PC

Next weekend at ranked rival in UNH

Following weekend against a NU team likely red hot winning 7 of their last 8 including over ME

Then at UVM - sure

Finish home against ranked UMass who will be top 5 in HE

Gutterson Fieldhouse is not an easy place to play. I wouldn't even consider UVM easing up.

I agree. I’m thinking you need see the rookie a little more battle tested so that when playoffs come he’s got more experience. 5 games of .940 isn’t a fluke. He’s legitimately(passing the eye test based on quick recovery and efficient movement/skate maneuvers) playing better and it can save a goal per game. That is gigantic improvement. More games under pressure is what Boija needs.

Very few points separating 4 to 7 in the polls.

And that is why Maine needs to continue to win...a lost here and there and very well could miss the bye and have to play a play in game as a 6 thru 11 team....which I hope Hockey East stops and goes back to 1 thru 8.. and making the regular season legit( just imo ). But won't happen.

Here is a list for the recruits…

In Montgomery’s case he tweeted his commitment on Twitter or X

It has been speculated that he decommitted last month. My guess is there is no scholarship money for next year arrival at Maine. Just a guess though.

If I had to guess this is it. Maine probably had him slated for fall of ‘25 and he progressed much quicker this year than they thought and he wanted to come this fall. Right after he de-committed they picked up Aaron Van Wie who is the top goal scorer and 2nd in points in New England prep.

Not sure how it works for Covid 5th year guys. If Breen, Houle, and Ostman decide to stay a 5th year, do the get a scholarship still? Can a Covid player get a 5th year on scholarship?

Which website do you guys use to follow recruiting that closely?

Does anyone know why he decommitted?

Chris Heisenberg’s List has been ongoing for years. It’s pretty on the money-sometimes the years are off.

If you follow Ben or Forch on Twitter they will re-tweet or like commitments. Also you can follow “puck preps”, “hockey commitments” or someone like Mark Divver who has his pulse on all things New England hockey better than anyone. Mike McMahon is great too.

You can also go to individual players social media accounts to get updates but that’s less informative (until someone removes their commitment like Montgomery did a few weeks ago).

Lastly, I check junior league sites regularly for stats updates/scoreboards. Majority of guys are in the USHL, BCHL, or NAHL. Maine’s Elite Prospect page has current and future players as well.

Hope this helps!

Heisenberg and Puck Preps are the two I use most often, but I also like that Elite Prospects has a transactions page: https://www.eliteprospects.com/?league=ncaa&team=606

I do keep track of all the recruits in my own sheet with an auto stat lookup. Saves me a little time from manually copy/pasting stats.

Yes. Extra year COVID guys count against your scholarship caps.

Apparently PC is piping loud music/crowd noise into their practice today for Alfond crowd noise. Leeman knows

Too funny...if they think this will work...oh well,my thinking if you don't know what to do while on the ice in crucial parts of the game....oh well..guess mind games 101....ammunition for the Student section and Pep Band...pity PC if Maine scores first and early.
