Chabrier with a great early goal, sometimes I feel the boys overpass. Barr has mentioned that near the top of list on PP struggles. loved seeing him just take it in from the blue line and use the other forward as a distraction.

We all know what Barr should do in net, but what will he do? Lose Ostman's head space for the year if plays Boija in both next weekend?

Besides Boija for Ostman, looked like other healthy scratches from last night were Pabich for Trudeau and Dalton for Hopkins.

Arnott and Renwick played the weekend. With Grayson looking the better of the two. I recall tonight Renwick had a nice shift that ended in a centering shot, but otherwise was quiet on his checks and in the zone. How did his skating look to you guys?

Was hoping Maine would have better speed through the neutral zone tonight and use the larger ice more. They just kept trying to dump and retrieve (and it really didn't work).

Boija continues to impress. Calm under pressure in the crease. Hope to see him back in net next Friday at home.

He absolutely should start every game going forward. That's a no-brainer, IMO.

He's the 2nd coming of Frank Doyle, I hope. Far more talented than VO.

It was a good win tonight, especially in the wake of how last night ended over in Boston. I thought other than in the early to middle of the second period, Maine did well to limit Mass' quantity of chances, though they sometimes did have the quality. Boija was rock solid, 15 saves is deceiving for how he actually played. I'm curious if Barr and Co go with what we all want, Boija as incumbent starter the rest of the way, or if he tries to go a split or 1A/1B type route, where they each get one game a weekend. Agree on Antonacci, really solid game and was praised by the UMA broadcast team for his disruption of their plays all night.

LeBret looks like a very good pickup, Shattuck is obviously no joke with the amount of talent that has passed thru there so will be exciting to see him finally get to Orono. Hope they can carry the momentum against the best team left on the schedule (imo) next weekend at home.
 
Been thinking and not sure how the boys won that last night. Didnt play all that great. Back to having lots of neutral and d zone turnovers and just giving the puck away to get out of the d zone. At times they had some good offensive zone time but struggled through the neutral zone and had to result to dump in to get inside the blue line, didnt seem like they could carry it in.
I guess its fair to say the D and Boija won it for them.
Going to lose the last few hairs on my head if this keeps up for the stretch.

The last 8 games Maine as a team has not played well...but we'll enough at times to win and make comebacks. They have lots of areas to improve on, but this is a hard working and never quit team...better team defence overall and the goaltending has to be more consistent and come up with saves that you say during the game was the game changer...and one area they were at there best but have fallen back some is winning faceoffs at both ends of the ice...but last year if you told me they would be 3rd in Hockey East and 5th or 6th in the Polls I would have been surprised but then with Barr behind the bench nothing is impossible anymore. This weekend hopfully was a wake up call in discipline and the game is never over.
 
Teams are forcing their will on Maine instead of the other way around. Maine looked good at end of periods last night but long stretches of....... I think Bradly has hit the Freshman wall. I finally saw him grip it and rip it last night from the dots, been awhile. Maine isn't big enough if you ask me. Can't clear in front of the net, UMass had the whole team in there for long stretches last night. Can't see Ostman in net for awhile but who knows. I wonder if he is hurt and is trying to play thru it. I bet he needs more than rest to cure whats going on?? Just a hunch. PC looks like a team Maine will struggle with.

Felt this way too. His last 9 games, 2 goals.

Josh is more play maker and Bradly more of a pure scorer. As everyone has noticed with Josh getting roughed up lately, he has slowed down too. He only has 3 goals in the last 10 games, but has contributed 9 assists.

Combined with average goal tending, inconsistent special teams, injuries to 2 of the top 10 skaters, and neutral zone problems. Hopefully this is as bad as slumping looks like.

I'd say so too. Bradley has hit the wall for now. But he will shake out of it...it just happens to freshman eventually. I'm still seeing a fair amount of cheap hits against these two...guess their reputation has made them a target. Need guys like Houle and Renwick to be laying out opposing forwards once in a while to send a message.

The face offs are bad and so is the fact Maine only had one PP in each game this weekend. Some of that is probably poor refereeing but still need to do better than that.

I think Providence gives away at least one if not both games at the Alfond. They have a ton of talent but seem to shoot themselves in the foot often and it has been that way for awhile. If they have their act together Maine could be in trouble but I don’t think they will.

Houles line can overcome the physical play, they don't mind mixing it up. Renwick hasn't played enough lately to see. I saw Dalton on the ice late in the game, didn't notice him earlier but Barr must have some confidence in him.
 
One other thing, it seems on the pregame radio show Barr was asked about Poisson penalty. He thought taking that penalty in Offensive zone wasn't brilliant and that he called league director of officials who told him it was a legit call.
 
In any event, good to see a win against a ranked team in their own barn. A shutout even. Defense limited chances and goaltending was solid. Got to get the O cranked up ....cant live on one goal a game, thats for sure.

Have noticed that as well since the team came back from break. Bradly's overall SOG numbers are down slightly: (3.8/game over the first 14 and then 3.2/game in the 10 since.

I don't have shot charts but I'd love to know what percentage of those shots would classify as high danger, because it doesn't feel like there have been many.

Someone else mentioned Barr talking about the powerplay getting a little pass heavy at times and I wonder if some of that is to try and free up a bit more open ice for Nadeau to let a one-timer loose.

Don't think I'll have a chance this week to make any of the afternoon practices, but I'm sure special teams will be a big point of emphasis this week (as it well should be).

It's going to be hard to drill it in there heads to pass less...they have done it from the start...and got results at the start of the season...not the power-play as much as 5x5 play...now teams have focused on Bradley to a point he can't get his signature laser shot off...it's on him to change for the team to move forward...maybe at times put him on the point during a power-play.
