UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

I'm just happy that the UMaine Athletic Dept. seems to be moving into the current century in regard to facilities and salaries....at warp speed! The Alfond Foundation started the ball rolling....forever thankful to them!

I think the highest paid person at the U is Habib D. the director of the composite center, its all public info.

He was under $300k in the most recent report. Previous high was Joan Ferrini-Mundy at $410. Malloy around $385.

We don't pay our elected officials much. Think the next governor is getting a bump, though.

Our friend Sean Pickett (BU fan), maintains a NCAA financial spreadsheet on teams in Hockey East. BC, BU, Providence are private, so it is harder to get that information. I think you will find that if you compare Barr's salary with other public university teams it is very favorable. I haven't seen Sean posting for awhile.

Barr extended, details to come.

"The new agreement will retroactively run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2028 and will replace Barr's current contract. Barr will earn a salary of $425,000 in 2024-2025 with an annual increase of $15,000 through 2028."

Still not what the bigger schools are paying, but bless his heart for finishing what he started. It's as clear as day that this one man has created a sea-change in Orono.

I'm completely delighted.

GO BLUE!!!!

Your right, looked it up. Hockey coach going to be at no 1 spot! Unless they negotiate something new with Joan.

Prior to this, Maine was one of two states with a female highest paid public employee per the source I looked at, although I'm not sure it was correct listing New Hampshire's as their (female) chief medical examiner making $262,000. Generally UNH had been paying their football coach decently. There had also been only ten states with a non-coach highest paid public employee.

None of this really matters, of course, just interesting trivia.

I see that there’s going to be an Alumni event at the Yard House sports bar over by Copley before the NU game this Friday from 4:30 to 6:30

does anyone know if there is an end of year banquet any more? There were some good items auctioned off and each senior’s away jersey was included. They were at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer

those were fun to go to. I think my last one was for Grant’s retirement.

Let’s see if the bye week helped or hurt? Arnott and Renwick in the lineup ? can’t imagine those two not being rusty. Maine has done alright on the road so let’s hope they can keep that up.

Let’s hope they both play. Seems like they both need to be as good or better than who they bump from the line up. Imagine it is freshmen Califori and Nobes. Hopkins likely is extra skater and Arnott gets back into pairings. Seems like a good way to mitigate Arnott being rusty, could just have Hopkins take more shifts.

Maine having a “4th” line of Poisson/Renwick/Hanson is pretty amazing. It really wouldn’t be a 4th line. Maine can roll 4 lines and hopefully as games wear on contributions from bottom lines help Maine remain strong.

I’d like to see Boija tonight in net and see if he can have a strong game with no softies. If Maine can get rid of the soft goals they could be a frozen four type team. Takes focus by the goalie and clearing the net front by the defense.

I actually wouldn't mind a fourth line of Poisson/Renwick/Calafiore.

Hanson probably offers a bit more versatility with his ability to take face-offs, but like what I've seen from Calafiore so far through his 5 games.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Poisson and Renwick play with Scholle on the third line. Maine is going to need a lot from them if they are going to get very far.

I think Northeastern winning Tuesday changes tonight significantly. They moved up seven spots in pairwise and are within striking distance of an at large bid even if it’s somewhat of a long shot. If they had lost I think they would be more focused on Monday but after winning they’ll be desperate to follow it up with a win tonight.

My expectation is Northeastern is the better team at the start of the game and Maine gets stronger as the game goes on. Maine has won their other three games coming off a bye week so hopefully that pattern stays true tonight.

My biggest question mark for Maine is how much they have left in the tank. They’ve given it everything they have all year and none of these remaining 12 games will be easy.

If I recall from my prior research, Maine hasn't won at Matthews in over ten years, since the 2011-12 season. Which as we all know, is also the last time they went to the national tournament.

Big one tonight, I'm sure Ben Barr will sell the boys on some statistics to get them fired up. Records be damned, Northeastern will be very tough.

Yes, you are correct. Maine hasn’t won at Matthew’s in the last 15 games there dating back to 2012. They are 0-13-2 over that stretch. I read that in the game preview on goblackbears.com.
