Colgate 23-24

One of Colgate's all time best coaches in any sport ever. Put the women's hockey team on the map with his calm respectful demeanor and complete trust in his players. He established a great culture that attracted great players! He deserves this opportunity and has left the team in great shape. I hope the committee looks closely at Stefan AND if not, Chelsea who ironically just left herself. Regardless, there should be a number of great candidates for this top college job!

Now the tough choices. Does he try to convince his NY PWHL GM to draft Danielle first on Monday night or does he like what he's seen from playing Sarah Fillier for 5 years or is Hannah Bilka for example more their cup of tea? No wrong answer there. He also won't be lonely as possibly 5 or 6 from this years Gate class will get drafted to join the 4 already in the PWHL already (3 of those 4 probably will probably become free agents and not get resigned as the quality of this draft is so high).

Thanks for all you have done for Colgate and it's women's hockey program Coach Fargo and I'll look forward to seeing you on the NY bench when the season starts next year. We may even know what the NY team and all the other teams will be called by then...

Don't know who will be drafting for Minnesota but I hope Serdachny is there for them with the 3rd pick after Fillier and Bilka are selected 1 & 2 according to how they are ranked by the experts.

Unbelievable loss for the school and the program but great opportunity for Fargo. Too bad Chelsea left already.

As far as Serdachny - I'd be surprised if he pushed for her after the 5 years of drama she caused. I think he is better off with Fillier.

Rightnut, this is the second time on this board you've alluded to drama attributed to DS. Let's hear some details. Outwardly they certainly seemed to thrive, but Greg being who he is would certainly not share something like that!

According to the latest update on their website, Dara Greig is back at Colgate. Is this a mistake? Greig is on the PWHL Draft eligibility list.

PWHL draft night. Danielle #2, Allie, Sydney, Dara, Kayle and former favorite Nemo all drafted. Also NY's draft looks excellent, arguably tops so great job Coach Fargo! I think we had more players drafted than anyone other than OSU!!

Rightnut your perspective and agenda is so skewed and transparent. Fargo and Wakeland were obviously great coaches and a big part of the success of Colgate and would take Serdachny in a New York minute if it was solely up to them. However, that does not diminish the exceptional talent of the graduating class that led them to 4 consecutive ECAC championships and NCAA berths. Serdachny, Simpson, Bard, Greig, Osbourne, O'Donohoe and Bettinol were exceptional. The era and accomplishments of that these players may never be repeated again. I think it is quite common knowledge of who was the genesis of any drama, if there was any. I believe the coaches were well aware of this as they jumped and moved on to new opportunities that they both deserve.

I must have missed posts about her causing drama.
I do know her final two schools to choose from was between Ohio State and Colgate. If she really was a drama queen maybe it was best for us she chose Colgate?

Let me get this straight...pondering is all. So Fargo had years left on his contract at Gate, but he can leave anytime he wants but the Univ. can't fire him ?

I don't think that FOIA applies to Colgate, as a private university. I imagine that a coach could be fired if the university felt they had cause to do so before the contract was up. And the coach can leave for another job, hopefully not too close to the start of a season, and Fargo's timing still gives Colgate a window to look for the next coach. Best of luck to Colgate! I expect that NY's PWHL is glad to have him.

My guess is that at our level, long term contracts are more for the coaches than Gate. If a coach sees an opportunity and wants to leave we may make a final offer if we like him/her but won't stand in their way. This was a huge opportunity for Greg and they chose to support him and use his move to show how well our program is respected. The article was front and center on the Athletic site for a week plus. Now it gets dicey and we have to move fast. Sydney Morrow is already in the transfer portal and our recruiting will be hurt further unless we make the right hire supporting the same strong team culture or an even better one if we get an A+ candidate. With the PWHL exploding in popularity and influence, our ability to get Gate players drafted like this year will be paramount going forward...
