DIII Scoreboard

Hamilton defeats Elmira by a score of 6-3 with six different goal scorers.

Amherst defeated UMass-Boston by a 6-1 score. Marie-Eve Marleau would score 1:13 into the game to give the Mammoths a 1-0 lead. The Beacons would answer around 3 minutes later, but Amherst would score 5 straight goals in the blowout win.

Another OT win in a big game for Plattsburgh as they defeat the hosts and defending champs Middlebury 2-1 in OT.

The game was scoreless for the fwhen Middlebury got a greasy goal with Britt Nawrocki getting the score for the Panthers.

Plattsburgh would tie it when Wall would win a draw over Unsworth on the wing who passed back to the defender Norton and the point who got it over to Sierra Benjamin who made a strong shot from the point that was tipped in by Nicole Unsworth.

The game would carry into OT where again 3 on 3 play brought out the best in the Cardinal skaters. It was very up and down with Plattsburgh continuing to make quick changes and a couple times only just being able to cover on D.

Like in the Norwich game it took Plattsburgh getting their primary OT trio of Masotta, Krauseneck and Benjamin on a second time. Masotta and Benjamin were making for the attacking zone with the puck and the Panther defender chose to cover Masotta. The incoming help could not get to Benjamin in time and the 5th year defender took a strong wrister from the slot that beat the goalie Will to secure the win.

In other action featuring ranked teams, Hamilton beat Nazareth 4-1 and Utica beat Oswego 5-0. Erica Sloan was the only Utica player with more than one point in the win over the Lakers. Hyla Mosher scored 2 goals on 4 shots to lead the pack for Hamilton. Beretta and Smith also had two points for Hamilton.

Gustavus Adolphus senior defender Heather Olinger reportedly has had career-ending major spine surgery following a hit from behind against St. Benedict on Friday the 13th of January that resulted in multiple fractures of her spine. The box score indicates a 5 min major and 10 min misconduct for hitting from behind was called on a CSB in the first period of that game...

There is a GoFundMe for her and her family here if anyone wishes to contribute.

Holy cow.... This news clip shows the hit from the game against St. Benedict and it looks pretty horrible: https://www.keyc.com/2023/01/19/gus...uring-college-womens-hockey-game-last-friday/

Praying for her and her family

Upset alert (at least by PWR ranking). Aurora leads Adrian by 2 in the 3rd right now. This comes after Adrian won by a lucky last-second shot in the game yesterday.

Insane game in Eau Claire right now. EC jumps to a 5-2 lead on 3 quick goals and RF gets one right back. 5-3 EC in the last min of the 2nd.

Eau Claire wins 7-4. Last goal saw a Blugold player get tripped at the point but able to send the puck forward for her linemates to surge forward and score. Very entertaining game.

After 2 periods Plattsburgh 5 Buffalo State 0, There are no score updates on USCHO at all so far today.

Final 8-0 Plattsburgh

Should be enough for the changing of the guard!

Unfortunately for us Plattsburgh fans, the Pairwise updated and Amherst remains ever so slightly in front of Plattsburgh at #1. If both win their game next weekend, I expect Plattsburgh will pass Amherst by beating 14-9-2 Canton, while Amherst plays 8-14-1 Wesleyan, but if both win their tournaments, I have to imagine Amherst playing the likes of Middlebury and Hamilton in two games the final weekend would be enough to retake #1 as Plattsburgh would have just the one game against Cortland or Oswego.

If both the Cardinals and Mammoths win their conference tournaments, it’s sure to be close no matter what, and I’ll admit I’m mostly just guessing based on my understanding of how the math works. Plattsburgh could also be hurt by River Falls and/or Adrian losing in one of their tournaments, too.

i guess the only thing that’s certain is that there may only be 2 weekends remaining, but there are still WAY too many variables at play.

No upsets so far today

Plattsburgh dominated Canton 7-1. What impresses me about this squad lately is not just the bottom 6 forwards producing points but that it's two players who were scratches for most of the games up until this point. I know there's a gulf between Canton and the top 3 of the NEWHL but it's still a good show of depth.

Other big wins include both UCHC games (Utica over Manhattanville 7-1 and Nazareth over Chatham 6-1) and Adrian over Lawrence 5-0.

Midd handled Conn College 4-0.

Augsburg beat CSB 5-2.

Eau Claire beat Stevens Point 2-0, as did Amherst against Wesleyan. Hamilton went over Williams 3-1.

Norwich and Elmira each both had to score late but they beat Southern Maine and William Smith respectively in regulation.

And both Cortland and Colby each had to go to double OT to beat Oswego and Trinity respectively by 2-1 scores.
