Climate Change 3: Whatever you do don't call it a twatwaffle

I would hope we won't be as selfish as the Boomers once we take power, but I guess history will be the ultimate judge.

We'll just be selfish about other things. Whatever they call twentysomethings in 2050 will be trying to outlaw air conditioning when summer temps regularly top 100F in most of the country and we'll be clinging to our condenser units the way that today's suburban Boomers cling to their cityslicker F-150 Super Duties.

I hire a ton of 22-25 year olds each year. Less amd less even have cars. They’re leaving me for sustainability and health equity jobs and they have no dreams of buying a home.

Or it's just the natural cycle of consulting. How do you become a director? Stay longer than everyone else. ;-)

Jokes aside, it does feel like an increasing number of college grads care less about what they're being paid and more about what they're actually doing, and whether or not they're happy about it. FWIW, I see very little of this on the IT side, which is not surprising given that IT is the new finance and people generally get into it because it virtually guarantees a certain income level. I imagine that leaving a major firm for a health equity job probably comes with a pay cut. However, if it means not burning the midnight oil on the umpteenth iteration of a PPT deck for a client you don't really care about, then it's easy to see why some of them are happy to make that choice.

Rocko's Modern Life, c.1994:

Ed Bighead: [singing] Oh, I don't have the patience to recycle. I don't care about the o-zone layer. I don't buy a single thing that's biodegradable and I just dump my garbage anywhere.

Captain Compost Heap: So you see, kids... If we're not nice to Mother Nature... she'll kick our butts.

27 years later, still true.

Wanna get depressed watch John Oliver from Sunday go through the Electric Grid issues with a fine tooth comb. Does this country do anything anymore?

Nope, unless you live in a rich city or suburb we're pretty much just letting our commercial infrastructure all fall apart in the name of free-dumbs and more tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. At the end of the day, our standard practice of starving the government that has been in place ever since Saint Ronnie in the 80s has failed the rurals, the Rust Belters, and the vast majority of an entire generation (Millennials).
