The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

Despite the massive stretch of zone time and shot advantage for Providence, to my eye they haven't seemed very threatening. It doesn't really "feel" like they're about to score, at least to me.

Does anyone else keep the game on mute due to the play-by-play guy? UMaine seriously needs to do something....his voice is so shrill when he yells....which is 50% of the broadcast.

A horrible Maine team gets the shutout and sweeps nationally ranked Providence! Ostman (51 saves) for HE and National Player of the Week! DrewS drowning his sorrows!

Ostman obviously isn’t as good as swayman but he’s been as valuable this year as Swayman was in any of the years he played at Maine. Maine would only have a few wins this year without him.

Six points is always excellent no matter how you slice it. Great weekend. I'm excited to see them get another crack at the Terriers next weekend, this time at Alfond. Merrimack too.

I’m tempted to mute. If Maine was to put up 50+ SOGs and I had to listen to his Gilbert Gottfried shriek on each attempt…….muted.
Another great effort tonight. When I see players diving to poke the puck out of their end, it’s all good and makes good things happen.

Boston University should win Hockey East so getting #7 is very important. The schedule looks good for Maine to overtake Boston College. Two points down with a game in hand and three games head to head is about as good as the Bears could hope at this point. Add in that Maine plays a pair at UNH (#11 and two wins all year) and home to UMass (#10 and three) and Maine has a great shot at passing the Eagles. They even have an outside chance of passing the Friars for sixth.

This team has learned how to win even when not at its best. Next weekend just became much more interesting.

Without their best goalie, most teams would only have "a few wins". Duh Drew!

How about that! A fancy az school with million dollar hockey coach salaries and a big hockey budget come up here to little old orono in the boonies and get swept for the weekend in the old girl. Gotta love it.

It was a good classic lively crowd in the alfond.
Very impressed with the hustle, work ethic, effort, and physicality of this weekend. Good things can come of that.
Better at staying out of the box tonite too helped.
Goal tending wasnt bad either.

Heard a good stat earlier, maine is 7-0-1 this season when leading after the second period. Thats a pretty good improvement indicator.

The schedule for the rest of the way is actually immensely favorable to my eye. Their toughest game left is easily their next one, at home against the Terriers. But most importantly, they only have to go on the road four more times, and two of those are to Durham, home of the worst team in the conference with their sparkling 7-18-1 record, and a nauseating 2-13-1 conference record. When this team is Dr Jekyll, they can win against anyone in the entire nation, especially at Alfond. But when Mr Hyde shows his face, they'll get run off the rink by a lot of teams. I think that's typical of a young team. As NorthMike mentioned, 7-0-1 when leading after two is a great stat, and one I didn't realize at all. Completely agree it's a great sign of improvement. I'm excited to see how the rest of the year goes.

Great win, after years of futility against PC to sweep them is awesome. I was hoping for a few points but this is way better : ). I guess the place was rocking so thats good also. Be nice to see some sold out games like the old days.

One game at time. Dont worry about anything but the next game.

Have to laugh at the comments I see here and on facebook group about Maine being nothing without Ostman. Who would have thought the goalie is the most important player on the team. Swayman, Howard, Bishop. Doyle, etc Maine has had a few great ones and now its Ostmans turn. But lets not forget about the surronding cast and how its improved in the last 2 years.

If ACS says they look good I'm going wth that.

I mentioned how awful Mannix was weeks ago. Sorry but his style sucks. He knows hockey but can't stand the screech every time a puck gets near the net.

Got tickets for MC next weekend should be fun.

Looking forward to the BU game this weekend. I dont think it can be won if BU plays close to their potential, but Im interested to see what Barrs game plan will be. He has admitted his plan for last weekend was wrong. He had them take the foot off the gas pedal and play out of their identity.
We went to the game last saturday and really noticed this, didnt know why at the time just thought it was a bad night for them.

If they play to their identity in a way like this weekend it will be fun to see how they do and it could be a good entertaining game. Should be a good alfond crowd, but Friday games seem to always be a bit lighter than saturday.

My issue is still with the video production. It looks Soviet era on ESPN+. Camera constantly in the wrong spot. Unable to show replays 80% of the time, even when announcers ask, and when they do try it's always of something random and not what they intend to show.

Finding a way to win on nights where you don't bring your A-game is a definite sign that this team is improving.

The cherry was seeing former commit Guillaume Richard smash his stick in frustration on the ENG.

That was an awesome sight. He is a good player tho, I’m sure he wishes he hadn’t flip flopped. As a Maine fan I’m happy we got Breazeale out of it, he’ll be the captain of this team one day.

This team is learning to win, the rebuild is far ahead of schedule. As excited as I am for the future of the program, this season is far from over. If they can hold onto home ice for the first round, the road to the garden is much more realistic.

Since starting 2-8-1, they’re 9-4-1. They’ve been excellent at home and they’ve taken care of business against lesser competition. Schedule is favorable on the way out so it’d be nice to seen them finish above .500.
