The GQP Thread: I'm even sick of that fuck's number and, anyway, he's gone (for now)

The Right is insane. They should not be permitted to hold any office.

Arizona GOP secretary of state nominee Mark Finchem, an election-denying Oath Keeper who was outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, told Time magazine that as secretary of state, he would certify a Biden victory in 2024 “if there’s no fraud” – but “I think you’re proposing something that, quite frankly, is a fantasy.”
  • Finchem argued that Biden’s 2020 victory in Arizona “strains credibility” because he apparently “can’t find anyone who will admit” they voted for him. Checkmate!
  • By the way, Finchem had a fundraiser on Sunday that was co-hosted by a Sandy Hook and 9/11 truther (and yep, she’s a QAnoner).

The right is attempting to transfer all the one issue voters from abortion to immigration. I'm hoping it doesn't work. I'm sure they'll combo platter crime and immigration together. My State Senator that I talked to the other day did mention that crime was the number one issue he was hearing from door to door.

That only works if you don't add one issue voters to the rolls. I highly doubt all the women signing up to vote are going to change their mind because of immigration or crime. (in larger not localized elections)

This is an almost perfect laboratory test in political science about the isolated effect of a single issue. I hope to god we pass it. Not just women. Everyone. Everyone should vote straight ticket Democratic now on the sole issue of women's autonomy. It really does not get more fundamental than this. It is the equivalent of slavery. And, naturally, it's the usual suspects on the other side.

Few things are so clear in history that the Right is a fig leaf for vicious, ignorant, fearful, terrible people who merely want to hurt others.

It depends. We know white women have voted in the past majority Nazi. White Women in the suburbs vote on crime. If they somehow decide crime is more important than abortion we may lose them. I am hoping their Civil Rights are more important than the crime issue but I've been burned in the past on that.

Dr. Mrs. thinks they never believed before they were at risk, but now they know. I really find this hard to believe. It means that women are so stupid they opened the door for a knife wielder screaming he was going to slash them because he was still outside, and now that he is inside they suddenly think, "oh, this is bad." I'll grant that the average woman is no smarter than the average man and hence a door knob, but still...

But she may be right and we may now have a huge swing of white suburban women from R to D. I hope so, but I think whatever malfunction led to 53% of them being self-hating before has not magically boiled off with Dobbs.

For first time since living here, I’m seeing a bunch of signs for the republican state senate candidate. His Platform of course is focused on crime and it might be working . His opponent is a female medical doctor

Those White Women were voting already. Any newly added White Women likely aren't voting on crime.

Stuff like this is tough to figure in a local election because its just too small a sample. Your State Senator is likely right for your area because likely there isn't a high number of new additions to the rolls. But for example in the Governor's race Jensen is avoiding the abortion issue because he is not only losing anyways but likely he is adding more to the other side's totals. He is praying crime or COVID will be enough...

Ultimately we will see in November. I know the Governor's office is safe. I worry about the Legislature at both the State and the Federal levels.

Of course.

A Michigan GOP congressional nominee supported by former President Donald Trump once said the country would be better if women could not govern or vote, and argued that patriarchy “is the best model for the continued success of a society.”

“Some argue that in a democratic society, it is hypocritical or unjust for women, who are 50% of the population, not to have the vote,” Gibbs argued. “This is obviously not true, since the founding fathers, who understood liberty and democracy better than anyone, did not believe so. In addition, all people under age 18 cannot vote, although they too comprise a significant portion of the population. So we cannot say that women should be able to vote simply because they are a large part of the population.”

At the end of that argument, he wrote: “Thus, we conclude that increasing the size and scope of government is unequivocally bad. And since women’s suffrage has caused this to occur on a larger scale than any other cause in history, we conclude that the United States has suffered as a result of women’s suffrage.”

In another section, he wrote that “The Bible clearly articulates the idea that women should not teach or maintain positions of power.”

“Although the reason is not expressly mentioned, it must be due to the nature of women (i.e. their differing mental characteristics), since every other command for living in the Bible is based on the condition of man,” he wrote. “In other words, because women do not posess the characteristics necessary to govern, and since women have a more important task to do, which is to prepare the next generation, they are commanded not to rule.”
