If this was 1974 and a republican president and republicans in the House and Senate were acting like trump and his party are acting today I believe the republican party would have suffered a defeat in the polls so catastrophic it likely would have gone the way of the Whigs and other long since dead political parties in this country.

And in the 1974 elections Democrats added 4 more seats in the Senate moving to a filibuster proof total of 61 seats, added 49 House seats, which doubled their already large majority, and for good measure won 4 more governor races, to control 36 of the 50. All of this in response to one corrupt elected official. One whose crimes, quite frankly, were not anywhere near as severe as trump's. And those losses in the House, Senate and Governors mansions were not the result of hundreds of polititicians in full-throated defense of a corrupt and criminal president. They were, as much as anything, throwing the baby out with the bathwater, as if to say "not in our house."

In 2022 though, Americans will probably respond to a party that is almost completely made up of full-throated supporters of a corrupt, criminal and utterly unworthy president by returning it to power in the House and the Senate. American voters should be ashamed when the only thing they think of is their pocketbook, and when half of them don't even understand WHY their pocketbook doesn't have as much money in it today as it may have had 6 months or a year ago. It is incredibly disheartening.

Gas is heading for $6 and beyond and Joe Public expects the President to tell OPEC to pump more gas to drop the price to less than $3 and it to be done because 'Merica. - a country no longer self-sufficient on energy production, leading to
- $5+ national average gasoline and $6+ diesel leading to
- 40-year-high 8.6% inflation (because everything is affected by transportation and energy)
- and, as a microcosm of how things are being run, a baby food shortage because of FDA slow-walking getting a plant back online
- peoples' savings and retirement funds shrinking because of the above

People vote "pocket book".

He's not entirely wrong. People do vote the economy and the Democrats have done zilch to help. They actually sunset the one piece of legislation that was benefitting people! The president makes a highly publicized TV appearance and talks about what a great guy Mitch McConnell is. Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly said she wants a stronger Republican Party. Not exactly making the case for voting blue, are they? Meanwhile, the GQP came within a few feet of casting our Republic into the waste bin of history and regularly claim the president, Nancy and other Democrats are groomers and Antifa thugs who murder and drink the blood of babies. And the response from Democratic leadership is crickets. Or even worse, when bothering to say anything they endorse a pro-gun, anti-choice candidate for Congress and then tell us how important gun control and the right to choose are.

In other civilized, countries, the governments are helping citizens with the burdens inflicted by inflation and rising energy costs. Here we are told that wages are too high. (And that's not a GOP talking point, that's from the Biden administration!) We are lectured that people are lazy and just want a government handout.

The Democrats are headed for a bloodbath this November and don't even understand why they are going to get destroyed. The best they can hope for is to tread water and maintain 50-50 in the Senate, but the House is going to be a sea of red. I hope people are braced for Gym Jordan to chair the House Judiciary. Oh, and any investigation of January 6 is shelved in favor of endless Biden impeachments and hearings on how Antifa and BLM are plotting to overthrow the government.

And people mock me for wanting to leave this hellscape.
