Question of the Day

Sorry for taking more than a few days off!

Today's question:

What's for dinner tonight? I'm having stuffed peppers. I made a bunch a while back. Tonight's meal is the last of it. Planning to make more this weekend if I can find the small peppers I like.

Ramen from scratch. We made a big batch and froze it. Makes for fast (amazing!!!!!) weeknight dinners.

We’re also making AB’s meatloaf so we don’t have to cook tomorrow. (I got off work late and my wife was talking to her sister. So we didn’t want to eat at 7:45 and decided to reheat the ramen and finish meatloaf after dinner.)

I’ve always told people they’d know if I won the lottery because I’d drop off my laptop from 10,000 ft in my new helicopter.

People who keep going to their jobs after winning the lottery are idiots unless they're a doctor or an EMT.

Nothing else is worth your freedom if you can buy it. I don't care how much you like the guys down at the plant.

It could be different in different states.

Right. In MN you can be in the intersection (not blocking traffic) while waiting to make a left turn if you have a green or yellow light. I know that in other states you will get a ticket for that.

Really? Yikes.

I can see that in a major city (blocking the box) but I don't see why they allow non-truck traffic in major cities anyway. Build a light rail, asholes. Anybody who's played Sim City knows that.

I bought 5 quick picks for tonight and 5 for tomorrow night. If I win, I'm getting on a plane right away to (unfortunately) Florida where my cousin who is a very successful financial planner lives. Actually, I will first make a copy of the winning ticket and put in a safety deposit box. Then I will buy a first class ticket to Florida. The goal is to set it up so I can take early retirement. Ahhhh, a girl can dream. I will not be going to my current FP because he is a getting-close-to-out-of-control Trump lover. He called me the other day to check in to see if I sold my condo and after some updates, went OFF, yelling how Biden is a LIAR. And a CRIMINAL. And HOW COULD PEOPLE NOT SEE THAT? HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL!!" I literally put the phone down while he was ranting. It was so unprofessional and unpleasant. He's not seeing a dime of that money.

Any. Way. Today's question:

Is there a worldwide shortage of aluminum, or has it been said that aluminum foil has some sort of magical ability in the fight against COVID? Because the major supermarket chain I shop at has not had their brand of foil in stock for, like, three weeks. I went to two different stores this morning. Only one of them had a few Reynolds Wrap version, the other had none. Did I miss a news story about aluminum foil?

I think I found the problem.

I wish Alaska would get off it’s *** and figure out a way to participate in these multi-State lotteries so we could actually have a chance to win.

Since the expected value is negative that will result in a net outflow from Alaska citizens' wealth.

You should be happy this particular "opportunity" is not available in your state yet.

The State already has negative outflow of wealth from tax breaks to oil companies, brain drain from defunding the state university system, and a refusal to tax income which allows oil and seasonal workers to use our infrastructure without paying a dime to support it. Me getting the opportunity to spend $2 to win $700 million is a drop in the bucket.

From what I've read, the smartest thing to do when winning a giant jackpot is to the following:
1) Don't tell anybody you won - if you're able to keep it to yourself.
2) Go to a bank/credit union/whichever, and get a safety deposit box to keep your ticket until you're ready to claim your prize. Take photos of you with your ticket, and sign the back of the ticket. This is supposed to help in issues should something happen to the ticket. (Aside from the safety deposit box, I'm not sure how much the rest of that really helps.)
3) If your state allows this next part, contact a lawyer who can setup a trust to use for claiming the jackpot because when your anonymity is removed. Not all states allow you to collect the prize without revealing yourself. If yours does, do it, because people from all walks of your life's past will come hunting for cash. Winners have noted this time and again.
4) Get a trusted financial advisor who specializes in high-worth clients. Again, using the trust.
5) Move out of your current town. There have been recorded instances of cities/townships going after winners for donations to a great many things. Some have been taken the point of being harassed by local police and fire departments for new, expensive equipment. One guy noted that he had started racking up speeding tickets for going 36 in a 35, things like that.
6) Make sure you do not have a personal connection with any of the people you've hired to help you so that you don't have any issues firing them should they fail you in some manner or another.

Today’s question - what’s the best way, or your way, to cook a tenderloin steak? And not on a grill as I do not have one.

Probably. But I’m guessing it also helps dry out of the surface so you can achieve a nice crust. IIRC, the salt pulls out some extra moisture as well. Not sure if that’s protein laden moisture, but I seem to recall someone telling me that. That liquid dries out leaving a deposit that browns nicely.
