The "I Can't Believe There's No Abortion Thread" Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo

If this is done without religious overtones this is great. In my area- Upper MA- the places that do this are all fraught with stipulations, requirements to adhere to religious principles and the assumption that the women are guilty of putting themselves in this position.

Went to a fundraiser for one of the ones that took care of my patients and had to walk out of the room before I caused a scene. They had in national speakers all anti-abortion who spent time denigrating the women who got pregnant- it was their fault. No blame to the men who should have kept their appendages behind their pants. The women they were 'helping' were in the room. It was horrifying, demeaning and showed that some righteous people can be more toxic that the environment the women tried to leave behind. :(

OR too. We had 40 ballot measures one year. People get tired of it and just vote No.

I do that with CA props unless it's a basic fundamental amendment (like the upcoming abortion one). Beyond that, this is stuff the legislature should be doing, so if people want it done they should get their delegate or state senator to do it.

I agree on ballot initiatives (mostly I vote whatever the "leave it alone" option is with the same caveats you have).

But we don't have the same job that legislators have.

If it isn't important, abstain.

I always saw propositions as the only way to get around gerrymandered districts at the state level.

or get around a powerful lobby that manipulates things so they are not addressed

Except it works in reverse, too. Astroturfing is a huge problems with referendums and ballot initiatives. Business destroys everything it touches and our politics is as vulnerable and the environment.

Durrrrr gas prices are high! Who needs contraception?

One of my new son-in-law's brothers is a GOP political strategist in Nevada. Dr. Mrs. asked him at the reception (note this was not my idea) what effect Dobbs would have on turnout and he said, "none at all, it's all gas prices." Dr. Mrs. thinks he is whistling past the graveyard.

But even so, gas prices are dropping.

Gas above $3 will be touted as "high"... They can bait D's into saying "Well it was $5" and then the R's reply "Yea, $5 under YOUR control"...

That's dumb, but look at who they are appealing to...

Aaah yes. Someone in this thread actually thinks women can get safe legal abortions in Texas from a real doctor without issues under that ad's premise. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, won't get fooled again.
