Elections have consequences.

This is why we must break the back of the Right, throughout the entire world. Human existence literally depends on it.

End the Right
Save the world

That was good news, though, because that dude was supposedly a stalking horse being used by Erdogan to split the opposition.

If polling is correct, Ionian Gandhi is gonna win, but it's hard to believe Erdogan will go peacefully.

Twitter shut down all the opposition accounts in Turkey, the day before the Turkish election.

Twitter Global Government Affairs on Twitter: "In response to legal process and to ensure Twitter remains available to the people of Turkey, we have taken action to restrict access to some content in Turkey today." / Twitter

Oh, so if Twitter didn't shut down the opposition accounts, the government of Turkey was going to ban Twitter?

Cause that's sure what it sounds like.

That is probably a good sign. It means Erdogan may not have enough force to simply cheat. And Gandhi took the first round over Erodgan by +5 points.

Where are you hearing that? The BBC has it as 49.5-44.7 for Erdogan and his party won the majority in parliament.

You're right. Either CNN (my fault) had the numbers transposed when I read it or more likely I did it. Erdogan missed 50 by a smidge, so I guess every one of those other opposition votes has to go against him next round.

There is zero chance both him and Putin are alive at the end of the month.

The problem with guns for hire is that they can be hired. I don't think he has more money than Putin. So...

Yeah...mercenaries can't be trusted because they have zero loyalty. Putin really screwed the pooch on this one.

This is an interesting read.

Kasparov posits that the number of high-skill, high-information, pro-democracy Russian dissidents outside the country has reached a critical mass where it is essentially a government in exile waiting for the Putin regime and the authoritarian-military state to collapse. He calls it a "virtual South Korea" to compare to the de jure Russian Federation "North Korea" currently teetering.

I have no idea whether he is correct.

It did make me think of whether intelligent American conservatives could create a similar "party in exile" to roll back to GOP to the 1950s, and renounce ay everything from Nixon on. Then when the Nazis either collapse or liquidate each other they would be there to restore a sane conservative, democratic, American party that jumped forward 80 years in one step.

power isn't usually held in exile. Kasparov is off his rocker.

Ain't no one going to waltz in and just be handed the keys with everyone singing kumbaya

It happens, and I think Kasparov has a point though he might be a bit ahead of things.

I don't think that is what he is talking about. The idea is everyone (Russia, West, China) is terrified of what happens if Russia decapitates itself when the population realizes how inept and corrupt Dump, sorry, Putin is. The fact of a stable government in exile that is coordinating and preparing makes it less scary. This is what de Gaulle did with France during WW2, as well as several other Nazi-occupied governments. Portugal did it in Brazil during the Napoleanic wars.

It might not be the worst thing to try to plan ahead with Slave States here, in case they go into civil disorder if their population ever realizes just how they have been used by the GOP. Our local feudal states are something we take for granted because they have existed for our entire lives. But things change, and it is possible they will reach a crisis. It can't be fun being trapped in the 16th century.
