Did they even, or did he just steal it? I see he's attempting to end judicial review.

Steal the election? I have no idea. I remember posting back in November that he won again, and with record voter turnout. Considering he openly talked about ending judicial review prior to the election (at least, his allies did), and voters still voted for him…tough titty said the kitty when the milk went dry.

Something definitely feels off, but the people don't directly elect the PM. They did for a while (1996-2001) but the governments always failed because they could never hold a coalition. They went back to the old system after that.

The first candidate the president nominates has 28 days to put together a viable coalition. He then presents a government platform and must receive a vote of confidence from the Knesset to become prime minister. In practice, the prime minister is usually the leader of the largest party in the governing coalition. Between 1996 and 2001, the prime minister was directly elected, separately from the Knesset.[SUP][3]
[/SUP]So you are being way too simplistic in your criticism. The people vote for the Knesset and the ruling party has to get a PM elected. The previous coalition to stop Bibi (Far Right and Far Left united to take him down) ended up failing and somehow Bibi was able to put together a viable government. I dont pay attention but my guess is Likud holds a lot of seats and no one else has the power to stop him in the party. They don't have a two party system so it wasn't a black or white choice anyways. Blaming the voters for what Bibi is doing is like blaming people in Chicago for the election of Trump.

If I read right the President suggested Bibi not do this but since the President has no real power (PM is Head of Government) it didn't matter. Likud is risking another split because of this. They are paralleling the GQP way too much. Many of the moderates left years ago much like the Lincoln Project style Republicans here and actually had a viable Party and leadership.

More Bad News

Adding to the pressure, the head of the Histadrut labour federation, the umbrella organisation for hundreds of thousands of public sector workers, said he was “astonished” by Gallant’s removal and promised a “dramatic” announcement on Monday.

Israel’s consul-general in New York said he was resigning over the dismissal. Israel’s research universities announced they would stop holding classes due to the legislative push, calling for its immediate freeze.

Unlike here when Trump got elected these people are actually taking action. There were fires in the streets. Highways in major cities were shut down. Full on strikes in the public sector and government jobs and universities shutting down. Airports no longer functional. We handed out cool hats and sang songs...we wait until cops kill Black Men on camera before we do anything of value.

This what happens happens when the balance on the left is 90% Liberals, 10% Leftists. The US has not had the type of organized, robust, popular Leftist movement that is a practical check on rightwing power since the first quarter of the 20th century.

Partly this is Capital's successful strategy to divide the white and non-white working class. Partly it is that American Christianity grew up as fascistic, so we never had that interesting Religious Conviction Leftism that factored in politics in Britain, Germany and especially in Central and South America.

We will likely never have anything like the grassroots Leftist movements that united rural and urban workers in Europe the last 200 years. When American Leftism has sufficient force to counter fascism and also assert itself against the entitlement of liberals, it will look very different. I strongly suspect it will be almost wholly non-white, and it will scare white liberals to death.

Good.

Yes, you’re right, I was being too simplistic, but your comparison of the people of Chicago electing Trump is an over-correction. Voters knew heading into November 3 that voting for Likud or its allied parties was a vote for the leader of the largest party of the coalition, which is Bibi. Again, his allies openly talked about the end of judicial review, among other crazy a— shit they plan to do, if they won in November.
I guess we’ll see how this all turns out. Maybe they’ll turn the tide of fascism in a way that, I agree with you, Americans often seem either unwilling, and/or unable, to do.

Watching the WION live coverage of the protest. It's pretty wild.

I wonder if the Israeli left can finally get its act together, and/or whether the center-right will help get rid of the Bibi cancer.

Britain, Germany, Brazil, Israel, India, US... everywhere: the Right needs an enema.

Grizzled, elderly veteran of the Six Days War down in the streets protesting, explaining in heavily accented English how he will do what he can to protect democracy... in a U. Michigan hat.

The problem is the other side doesn't match up with their beliefs at all. They are so fractured there it is hard to even know who is aligned with who. I tried doing research and I got a headache.

Police dispersing peaceful protesters with water cannon.

It's like a look forward 5 years if Dump gets back in.

End the Right
Save the world

Classic cacerolazo protest. It is stirring to see, every once in a while, the humans actually stand up to the thugs.

Brave armed cops riding large horses into groups of unarmed peaceful student protesters.

All around the world, same song.

Gen Zers, TPTB are not going to give up their (our) senile chokehold on the world. You need to come and take it.

I'm sure by now US cops would have started firing live rounds claiming they feared for their lives. After all, the crowds are loud.

And now seemingly everywhere the same sequence being played out. Thug cops pushing and threatening protester. Protester resists. Cops swarm protester, force him to the ground, hide him from the cameras, and pummel him.

Same sh-t everywhere. Jocks who peaked in high school whose only function is muscle for the status quo. Terrorism as "law enforcement."

My scientific study based on minutes of watching this coverage: some young Israeli women are cute and most young Israeli men look like the kind of dou-chebag who goes to a private school in Switzerland and berates the staff.

Boston, basically.

LOL, the protesters now playing the Imperial March from speakers to drown out the cops.

These folks know how to party.
