Very Bond like thing there.

Although, in reality, it's not actually changed my opinion of him. I wonder if it has changed opinions of those who worship him, though. Kinda doubt it.

If you look, his cult followers have shifted. A lot (not nearly enough but its happening) of the more liberal ones are walking away or criticizing him especially on Ukraine. His hardest core defenders now are fat fuck Trumpers who hated him until recently.

Thanks for looking- I don't like him so much, I don't bother looking at who follows him.

And I'm quite sure there are a lot of libertatds who still follow him- the ones that wanted him to be able to open his factories during the height of the shutdown and whatnot. The same ones who don't understand that paying for 40 hours a week and expecting 80 hours actually causes harm..... Or that people dying in china making batteries for americans is perfectly ok. Lots of those in the valley of silicon.

This is the dumbest fucking take of all. Russia is fucked for at least the rest of my life time. China... Sure, maybe. But frankly, I think KSA doesn't have much to offer 50 years from now when the world has completely converted to renewables. Plus, they represent one country. The US has been getting more buddy-buddy with Venezuela and Qatar in 2022.

Worse yet, i'm not sure he understands that KSA was the last country to launch a foreign attack on US soil.

This is the same exact "fear" that helped lead us into the Iran-Contra situation. We cut Iran off after their Islamic Revolution. So Iran started buying military equipment from Russian. Total panic! We can't have that (utterly predictable) result!

And now here we are doing it with another majority Islamic country and have literally the same discussion, because we learn absolutely nothing.

No, that was mutual. We had just been the enabler of the mass torturer and murderer who held their country in an authoritarian grip.

Hey! Just like MBS!

That's what is repeating, here. Pulling our support from the dictator is what will prevent a repeat of the result.

The Right will never learn that supporting totalitarianism is not just immoral, it is impractical.

He understands the money he is getting from them.

To be fair, Russia, PRC, North Korea, Iran, and Israel all launch cyberattacks against the US every day, and those can be characterized under official US military doctrine as acts of war depending on the consequences. Stealing our military secrets like Israel and Russia do is not technically an act of war, while attempting to cripple our infrastructure like Iran and North Korea do is. PRC does both. So KSA isn't the most recent attacker, they're just the most successful.

And we do it to them. That is why no one throws a fit it is just part of a days work.

Of course.

When we get mad it's because somebody fucks up and it goes public. You could actually see Angela Merkle's side-eye when we were caught spying on her, saying "my god, now I have to go out and make an 'I'm shocked, shocked do you hear?!' speech because you guys are incompetent. I hope somebody got fired for this."

It's like the scene in From Russia with Love when the Turkish driver slows down so his Bulgarian tail can pick him up again, as a professional courtesy.

ISW, who has been an invaluable resource during the Ukraine war, is now trying their lunkheaded Neocon best to whip up a war with Iran. Reminding us once again that conservatives who oppose Dump still suck, they just suck in the usual predictable aggressive imperialistic casual racist way instead of the deranged, anti-democratic, Nazi, overtly racist way of the Dumpies.

In other foreign policy news, I'm seeing news that yesterday, Azerbaijan and Armenia are starting to agree to some end to their hostilities. I'm not going to make links, as I'm not sure about the sources- but there are more than one on a google search.

Which is raising some possibilities that russia has been stroking that conflict as opposed to trying to end it. And it's not as if it's minor people thinking that- Macron accused russia of putting gas on that fire.

Maybe it's me, but it sure looks like the best thing vlad can do for his country is to make sure former USSR members are unstable and fighting. As opposed to actually making their lives better.

I saw some interesting discussion about how Russia's conscription process has echos of the US drafts in Vietnam.

I'm a little young to know more than the little I've learned in history books and such, but the comparisons were interesting and seemed to fit.

There was also an interesting trend pointed out that I think we even mentioned in passing: there seems to be a disproportionate drafting of natives (eastern Russia) and minorities to send them as cannon fodder.

Another thing I saw is that this may be a ploy by Russia/Putin to create an unintentional crisis in Ukraine where these unwilling conscripts go AWOL and become Ukrainian prisoners, overwhelming the Ukranian army into feeding and caring for these people reducing the amount of soldiers that can actually fight against Russia.

I think they would be able to deal with the POW's. And the russians need to not kill each other- there was a shooting at a training center, killing 12.
