Nancy quotes my second* favorite Catholic hymn, the Song of St. Francis.
* First: also the dude with the boids:
The local NBC affiliate in South Bend, WNDU TV used to close their broadcast day with a reading of the Saint Francis Prayer for Peace back in the day. Yes, for those of you too young to remember, well into the 1980s most TV channels did not broadcast 24 hours a day. The prayer was read by Father Edward A. "Monk" Malloy C.S.C., who served as the University of Notre Dame's president following the retirement of one of my personal heroes, Father Ted Hesburgh. WNDU then was a wholly owned subsidiary of Notre Dame. Reverend Malloy recorded this reading of the prayer long before he became the university's president. I'm not Catholic and never have been, but I have always loved that prayer and read it a lot, especially in times like these when my darker nature and thoughts threaten to take over.
