New ‘Jeopardy’ host

jericho

mascot extraordinaire
Have to imagine it’s Ken Jennings’ job to lose Also hearing rumors of Levar Burton, he’d actually be good. No to anyone from the political world, like Anderson Cooper, George Stephanopoulous or the woman from CNN. Jeopardy needs to be the main focus of whomever takes over. Anyone have any thoughts?

While it's understandable to want someone with a trivia connection, like Ken Jennings, you ultimately want someone who's just a plain good personality and host. Ultimately that's what Alex was, and it's what you need to keep the show moving. I'm not saying Ken Jennings isn't pretty good, I just don't know if he's the best; he might fit better working with the show and doing a bunch of the video clues, but not being the full-on host.

Levar Burton would be awful. One of the best things about Trebek is he was kind but not saccharine. Burton is exactly the opposite. Blech.

There must be literally hundreds of thousands of career "personalities" in the LA area who would be splendid, and who would become identified with the role, not the other way around. Shutter the show for a couple years, think about it, find the right person. Even if you're settled on a sassy black woman to demonstrate your wokeness, that's fine, but find the right sassy black woman.

he has signed on to be a producer, contribute questions and read some video clues since Alex announced he had cancer. People seem to think they were grooming him for the role. I’m not opposed to Laura Coates, if she’s the best fit, then fine but I think it would be better for the show if the host job was the only gig they had.

It’s not like there’s any reason the host needs to know any trivia - for exactly the same reason that a Star Wars actor doesn’t need to know how to repair an actual hyperdrive. In fact, maybe it’s better if the host doesn’t know any of the answers so he can’t give anything away.

There is 74 year old who meets that qualification who’ll be looking for work in January.

I don't watch the show so I do not care, but I wouldn't be surprised if they hired an older person just so that they do have a short termer.

A lot of organizations - after a very long term leader - prefer a short time interim leader. Get people used to change with someone who's obviously not the long term solution, and then use that time to figure out who you want to run things (or be the face of your franchise).

Churches do this too, and it works mostly well.
