Your Top 5 Bands Right Now

Edit: the vet posters on the board already know this, but my first car, a 1989 Chevy Corsica, had the Steal Your Face logo hand painted on the hood. :D

For my last two years of college I drove a red Audi GT Coupe with Dead stickers all over the back window as well as an MSU bumper sticker I altered to say, "KATO STATE MAN". Needless to say it was a cop magnet on 169 between there and the cities. :o

Stuff I'd be most likely to listen to right now? Hard to say as when I listen I usually just hit shuffle play on the computer or on my 300 disc Pioneer carousel player. But if threatened, off the top of my head:

1. Pink Floyd

2. Wolfmother
3. Portishead
4. Cake
5. Oasis

On the cusp: AC/DC, Cracker, Flaming Lips, Zeppelin, Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Edgar Winter, Robin Trower, The Cure, R.E.M.

Re: Your Top 5 Bands Right Now

Top 5 bands as of now?

1. Margot and the Nuclear So-So's
2. Counting Crows
3. Oasis
4. Fireflight
5. Radiohead

Nothing else has really grabbed my attention as of late. And the radio isn't where I go to find great music...

Re: Your Top 5 Bands Right Now

This is one of those things that just always changes for me, so there's no sense in giving an actual order to this. Call me a populist whore, but I have a hard time straying from the following list of the greatest bands of all time:

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Funk Brothers
The Band
Led Zeppelin

There are numerous other bands that I think are just as deserving. Throw in Metallica, the Beach Boys, Radiohead, Tool and Pink Floyd and I'd say you've got a very solid top 10 that would very rarely change. I know that that's sort of an "All Time Greatest" sort of list, as opposed to a "favorites" sort of list, but I honestly mean it: those bands are just better than everyone else.

Every so often, I have a "wild card" band that slips in there. Sort of like when you go through phases of really liking certain bands, even when they're not really all that great. Whenever I delve into fits of indie snobbery, all I'm doing is trying to pretend that I like a band more because they're not as popular and somehow I think that makes me cool for listening to them. No matter how many times I try to pretend to myself that a band like Sunny Day Real Estate or Pedro the Lion or Sigur Ros or Oasis, etc. would be a wildcard sneaking into my top ten, just who the heck are they going to unseat?

If this works, my brother added the flames/spoiler, after I sold the car to him:

Sloe, your first list is very good. But odd to see OAR and Disturbed 1, 2 haha. I love OAR and wish I had saw them at the MN State Fair this year.

Re: Your Top 5 Bands Right Now

Labor Day weekend up north my family got in a debate over the greatest bands/musicians of all time while listening to the best radio station in northern Minnesota, The Power Loon (I'm sure some of you on here know it as well). I think we were awake until like 2 am playing music trivia and arguing over nothing at all, good times.

Anyway, I can't say there is much out there today that really peaks my interest. Every now and again I'll hear a great album, but right now I've been listening mostly to:

Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
The Doors
Sigur Ros (a mainstay in my music rotation almost no matter what)
The Who
