I feel like I trip myself up on the questions about government messing around with morality. At the heart of it, every law comes down to regulating, encouraging, and mandating social norms. Don't kill (or injure). Don't steal. Don't f up the planet for everyone else. These are things that the government should regulate, and they seem like questions of morality to me, so I end up saying that I think the government should be involved in dictating morality, but I'm not sure I'm looking at the question the way the survey authors intended.

I try not to overthink the questions. I answer according to the naive comprehension of the average respondent, since then the instrument is measuring the same thing across different respondents, and a summary metric has a chance of meaning something.

I used to design these things and it is very difficult to create a survey that works for the dummies without assaulting the smarties, and works for the smarties without confusing the dummies. The best strategy is for the smarties to pretend to be dummies for survey purposes.

Note this also works in elections and is why you should never vote third party.

I think my changes have only been in how strongly I rated things. I felt more strongly that the government should intervene to correct injustices. Which is probably why my authoritarian (what a stupid framing, probably written by Libertarians) score went up. I'm a little more surprised my non-interventionalist score went down. Ditto on my culture score. Whatever.

seems like I lurched further to the left after a plateau and even slight fade to the right. This is the largest move left I've made since 2014-->2017.

I'm more of a libertarian and my foreign policy and culture scores are relatively flat.
