Your Christmas Haul

Re: Your Christmas Haul

Sure. It's going to take a few weeks until the first batch of beer is ready.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

A tin of gingerbread cookies and my 18yo niece drew a 5yo's picture for me to hang on my fridge.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

A subscription to the bacon of the month club... I get bacon delivered to my doorstep. Sweet, delicious bacon.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

Picked up a Keurig coffee maker, complete James Bond blu-ray collection, a video game, a couple shirts, a star wars pop-up book, and a trip to Hawaii.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

since I'm 33 I don't really care about getting gifts for Christmas anymore. I just enjoy a nice meal with the family and getting presents for my 4 year old! We spent a couple days at my dads house and had a nice Christmas Eve dinner with my Dad and my sister and her familly, and then we came back home to have Christmas at our house with the in-laws. I cooked prime rib, potatoes dauphinoise, pop-overs, served with a caesar salad. Dinner is the best part of Christmas (other than seeing my son open his presents)

My wife and I get each other a few gifts so my son isn't the only one opening gifts on Christmas morning, but we usually know what most of them are before we open them.

A few of the things I got

a set of tri-cams and some carabiners for rock climbing
new leatherman
Patagonia shirt and some other clothing
waterproof hiking map
new platypus hydration system
gloves
Playmobil Mountaineer (complete with mountaineering axe, piton hammer, and climbing rope). My son thought that was cool too :)

my dad gave me some clothes from LL Bean, a $100 LL Bean gift card, and a bench for the mudroom. I usually tell him not to get me much, just worry about the little guy, but he doesn't usually listen.

Trip to hawaii?! Nice...We're hoping to take a family vacation there next year around Christmas time.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

Yea, my family is going in late March to Maui.

I was thankful. I hate getting clothes for Christmas.

Where are you staying on the island. My wife and I stayed at Grand Waileah three years ago. Very nice.

And whoever said wanting socks had anything to do with getting them? Besides, in Tevye's words, "TRADITION!"

Re: Your Christmas Haul

The old Eddie Murphy skit about dad getting "Brut, drawers and socks" is so true... this year I received Old Spice, boxers and socks! (As well as a couple of shirts, sweaters).

Re: Your Christmas Haul

small TV for the bedroom, coffee grinder, gift cards, Brewers tote bag, and a homemade ornament from my nephew.

Re: Your Christmas Haul

This year was sort of like O Henry's story The Gift of the Magi except with a happy ending.

Spouse had gotten a raise and banked the excess to save up to buy a pool table for the family. I had a nice bonus some of which I used to take the family to a Broadway show and a nice meal. We have two adult children and each of us wanted it to be a memorable holiday for them since we aren't sure how many more times we'll have them home with us.

Having the family together and actually enjoying the time was the most precious gift of all this year. :)

Re: Your Christmas Haul

Got a cool watch which picks up a signal from Colorado so that it is always correct. It won't keep me from being late to meetings, but will allow me to determine exactly how late I do arrive! (Also got some neat "were I went to college" stuff, including a hard cover for my kindle fire.)

Re: Your Christmas Haul

Going to make lemon squares on Monday, since I've been craving them for over a month. Anyone have a special recipe/tips to share, or should I just go with the one in the 1960s Fannie Farmer Baking Book?
