Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I set up a mini league for Velogames Giro

League Name: USCHO
League Code: 05003828

My team

Ivan Basso CAN
Nicolas Roche TST
Joaquim Rodriguez Kat
Dario Cataldo SKY
Marcel Kittel GIA
Sebastian Henao SKY
Diego Ulissi LAM
Jonathan Castroviejo
Franco Pellizotti

They finally added Bein to my cable network so I broke down and upgraded to the big sports pack, which is basically Fox Sports 2, Big 10 network and like 7 networks that play soccer, I'm including bein in this. I will probably keep it thru the Vuelta and then dump it till next year. I thought Phil, Roll and Paul were bad but the announcing on this channel some guy and Magnus Baxter is pretty poor as well.

I'm reading a biography of Gino Bartali Road to Valor which is pretty good

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I like Rob Hatch and Maggie. Not as good as Carlton Kirby and Dan Lloyd, but they are loads better than Phil and Paul. Brian Smith is really good on color, and Sean Kelly is Sean Kelly, if you can penetrate that accent.

I watched Paris Roubaix with the Eurosport guys, and then later on NBCSN with Phil and Paul, and it was no contest. Phil kept mixing up Bram Tankink and Niki Terpstra whenever the two of them were at the head of the race. I love Phil, but he and Paul are just painful to listen to these days. Any of the Eurosport teams are way more interesting to listen to.

Now the Spanish guys who do the intro and commercial breaks for Bein are truly horrible.

I'll be in soon enough. Odds are that, as usual, I won't settle on my team until about 90 minutes before the thing starts, but I'll be there.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

IN!
I'm not 100% sold on my team. I'd rather Kittel than Bouhani and I wish I could get Fabio Aru, but haven't found a way to make it happen yet. Weird the #1 favorite isn't listed as an all-rounder...
Daniel Martin GRS 14 0 Active
Franco Pellizotti AND 10 0 Active
Nairo Quintana MOV 26 0 Active
Domenico Pozzovivo ALM 16 0 Active
Nacer Bouhanni FDJ 12 0 Active
Luka Mezgec GIA 4 0 Active
Mikel Landa AST 4 0 Active
Luke Durbridge OGE 4 0 Active
Elia Viviani CAN 10 0 Active

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

As always, subject to change:

Franco Pellizotti AND 10
Cadel Evans BMC 20
Nairo Quintana MOV 26
Przemyslaw Niemiec LAM 10
Nacer Bouhanni FDJ 12
Cameron Meyer OGE 4
Arnaud Courteille FDJ 4
Serge Pauwels OPQ 4
Elia Viviani CAN 10

And for some reason I can't remember what the hell I always named my team...

Edit: Yup, already changed it twice but really like the one I just came up with.

Just need to point out that any fan of the sprints needs to check out Demare's sprints the last two days during the 4 Days of Dunkerque. Incredible!

Glad to see him represent well in T-A this year. Makes me wonder how FDJ will handle him and Bouhanni in the bigger races in the years to come. Then again, considering the reality of things, one or both will probably soon be signed by other teams. I'd hate to see Demare go as I think he has the higher ceiling of the two. Guy is a world tour point machine, at least in relative terms to a team like FDJ and if they ever drop to pro-conti I'd have no one left to pull for on the world stage.

Except for Froome. But that's like reading The Onion.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Well, the bein network pulled a Heidi on us and cut away from their live coverage of the Giro just after my Neri Sottoli boys left the starting ramp, so they could show us one of their pre-packaged update shows on SerieA soccer, or some other such bullchit.

But don't worry, their live coverage continued on their Spanish language channel and online. Too bad my DVR doesn't record those.

They changed the time some time in the last day or two as well because my dvr ended up with 4 hours of soccer, luckily I got home just at either the 1st or second showing was starting at 6:00. It's funny until Wednesday my online cable guide didn't even have the Giro listed on Bein.

Tough break for Garmin and Dan Martin. Gotta love the commentating because Katusha finished 37 seconds behind Movistar, Rodriquez has a tough uphill fight his Giro is probably over!!! It's not like Quintana is Chris Froome or Wiggins and is going to smoke Rodriguez by minutes in the time trial. Hejadal is probably out of it due to Garmin's crash but even he still has a chance

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I don't think they messed with the time, as I searched my DVR guide like a week ago looking for cycling, and this was the only Giro stage listed at the time, and I chose to record it then, and it still recorded. I just don't understand why you cut away from a live event to show a piece on soccer that you're probably gonna run 17 times in the next week.

I was watching my recording while their rebroadcast at night was scheduled, and that was over by the time I discovered the colossal clusterkabiddle they made of their live show.

Good ride out of my Yellow Fluo boys.

I love Carlton Kirby

Kirby: "If you're wondering what the gentlemen on the side of the road are doing, it's what gentlemen do by the side of the road, when they need to"

Dan Lloyd: "In bike races"

Kirby: "And indeed on a regular Friday night, provided you've had a skinful, and it needs to go somewhere."

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

There back to Italy today, Bein is once again not showing the Giro for Sat and Sunday so will see what shows up. Watched the first 2 stages of Tour of California yesterday, not too many well know names in the bunch outside of the sprinters. Peter Stetina and Acevado as the big challengers to Sir Bradley? We will see what happens on the climbs.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

No one has a chance unless Pantani comes back from the dead in Cali.

Also, Kittel out with a fever. Good for his TDF chances and my Velogames team not so good for Giant.

AND today's stage has been neutralized due to rain. Think there will still be a sprint but...

I was gonna take odds on which stage of the TOC that Andy Schleck abandons on, but I see he's not even riding it this year. Bummer, that could have been a fun contest.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

rufus that WOULD have been a tough one!

Anyway, Initially I was a bit upset with the result today. Bouhanni wins, good. Viviani's whole team ends up on the deck, bad. Tom Veelers finishes 3rd (telling me that I misread Giant's roster, I was sure Mezgec was going to be the designated sprinter once Kittel was out of the race) bad. Mecgez finishes 8 in like a 10 man group, bad. Then I watch the sprint and see Mezgec had a gear issue and didn't sprint despite clearly being Giant's choice to sprint. Now I feel better about my Velogame chances. 3 sprinters!

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I thought Vandevelde added a lot to nbcsn the coverage of the TOC today. No matter what you think of them, Sky is really good, reminds me of US postal 5 years ago.

He's better than he was during Liege Liege and the other classics where he kept saying us and we when talking about Garmin, somebody probably pulled him aside and said Christian your retired. He's better than Bob Roll but they could pull some random guy out of the crowd and they would be better than Bob. Not that exciting of a stage would have liked to see somebody challenge Sir Bradley a little earlier, aside from the Jammies guy.

Giro was basically a nothing stage until the crash filled ending, Kittel being out will hurt my fantasy chances.

This is exactly what I think of them and why I hate them and everything they touch. They are UK Postal, and that is a bad thing.

Although the climb today was atypical of the Skyborgs. His Sirness was isolated early and he proceeded to look like a domestic for Garmin. Although I will cut them some slack in that there is a Grand Tour going on and their "A" team is "gearing" up in Tenerife or hurt.
