Year One of the Nacho--Likes & Dislikes?

Re: Year One of the Nacho--Likes & Dislikes?

As a UMD fan who lives in the Twin Cities it hasn't affected me much. There are less conference games I can make because the team is in Michigan or Ohio but there's no Alaska trip and we play our Minnesota rivals in nonconference. I'm sure the story is much different for Western or Miami fans.

All in all there are still teams relatively close to me: SCSU, UNO, UND.

As someone who follows WMU as one of my teams of high interest, I hope that those in the athletic department there have wisely thought out the budget changes that come with leaving a bus league in the defunct CCHA for a plane league in the NCHC. Support on game night in Lawson is great, particularly from the student base but also the in-town alumni. But like most NCHC schools excepting the Still Sioux, this team is not going to have a traveling fan base. That ongoing problem in 7 of the 8 member schools is still a potential thorn that could restrict the chance for national prominence. Time will tell there...same issue affects Miami in its new niche. The two CO schools are used to this. Ditto the Sioux and UNO. For the two MN schools, adding new rivalries while losing the Goofers and Wisco could be a negative, at least in short term. But the passion for hockey in St. Cloud and Duluth should overcome that, I would think.

Might need to get used to who is possessing the Penrose. Good majority of this team is back again next year. Won't be easy, plenty of tough competition in this league. One league title is cool. Two in a row is a trend. And yes, that's counting the one in the old league...
